Glen Davis Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 I have a new to me 1989 J model. I acquired it about a month ago. I live in Maine and it’s already getting close to freezing in the morning. Yesterday I went flying and turned on the defroster just to check that it was working correctly. I put my hand up by the output on the glare shield where the hot air should’ve been coming out, but nothing was coming out. I then took a flashlight and looked into that opening and discovered there were no ducts connected there. I could see behind the panel when I looked down into the defrost vents. I assume there should be some kind of a ducting system to move the warm air to the defrost vents on top of the panel to defrost the windshield. Could someone give me some further advice and guidance on what is supposed to be there and if you had any pictures, that would be marvelous! TTIA. Quote
Z W Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 I've had mine come out of the shop with that hose unhooked before. It's probably lying loose behind the panel somewhere. We no longer use that shop... Quote
PT20J Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 Some also have a blower and you might want to check if that is working if installed. Quote

Look at the Mooney M20J Parts Catalog in Chapter 21-4-00. It is online and in the download section of MS. 9 hours ago, PT20J said: Some also have a blower and you might want to check if that is working if installed. The model in question is serial no. 24-1459. The blower does not appear to be an option until about 24-1591 (1987). 1 Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted December 1, 2023 Report Posted December 1, 2023 I think the defrost ducts are 1 inch. BTW, when you get it working perfectly, it barely works, but it is better than nothing. The ducts were originally held on by #4 sheetmetal screws into very thin plastic. Those are all broken by now. I’ve found electrical tape with a Ty-wrap over it works well. Doing all that is done maybe through the removed glare shield, but partially with your body stuffed upside down in the wheel well, Ya-Hoo! Quote
