0TreeLemur Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 Does anyone know of a source for the panel covering on an '80's Mooney? It's kind of a thin black naugahyde with an elephant skin texture? Quote
RoundTwo Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 I was searching awhile back and got nothing but crickets. Quote
0TreeLemur Posted March 30, 2023 Author Report Posted March 30, 2023 The material seems to be a black leatherette naugahyde. It squishes and deforms when you tighten an instrument screw that passes through it. Does someone have a good source for such material? Since we're in the process of redoing the panel in our J, we need to make a patch to cover an opening that was made for two trays that have since been removed. Better yet, does someone have some scrap they'd part with? I don't need much, maybe a square foot or so. Thx. -Fred Quote
glbtrottr Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 Vinyl comes in multiple qualities. “Ultra leather” or other higher quality shaped material that has a better quality backing There are materials made with “repurposed leather” Then leather , full grain and top grain. Use 1/2 inch foam to give it some of its shape back. If you can’t get upholstery glue then use headliner glue or 3M 90.Lindsay + Hall Im SoCal has some great choice and are huge on inventory. 0TreeLemur Posted March 31, 2023 Author Report Posted March 31, 2023 I found an adhesive backed leatherette on Amazon that would work for small patches in the panel. Search for "Leather Repair Patch". Not saying its airworthy, just putting it out there as an example product that might be useful. 1 hour ago, glbtrottr said: “Ultra leather” or other higher quality shaped material that has a better quality backing I'll look into this. I will look better with a covering. Not a big deal, just want it to look finished. Quote
