jamesm Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 I recently purchased an ARTEX 345 ELT. I am real close to running out room on the fuselage top side was wondering if you might have some suggestions as where I might locate the ELT Antenna. The needed minimum 36" of horizontal separation per instructions towards back I possibly could be running into structure issue for the Antenna. Towards the front there virtually a thin layer of insulation like material and fabric headline even with a 90 BNC it's going to make a bump in the headliner. And could possibly interfere with GPS antenna for ADS-B. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, James '67C Quote
47U Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 You might consider installing a bent whip comm antenna on the belly and move the aft comm antenna there. Then install the ELT antenna where your aft comm antenna used to be. Belly comm antennas are quite common. I have a belly comm antenna and have had no issues with receiving or transmitting while on the ground, at least on CTAF and AWOS frequencies. 1 1 Quote

That’s what I did to help alleviate the congestion on the upper skin. One thing to keep in mind is the ELT is not an active antennae. So, as long as it does not block anything, you may be able to put in closer to another antennae. 1 Quote
0TreeLemur Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 Our C has a bent belly comm antenna, and the ELT antenna is installed just forward of the fuselage rib at the forward end of the hat rack, slightly left of centerline. Quote
jamesm Posted June 12, 2022 Author Report Posted June 12, 2022 I had forgot to mention that my com antennas are also are gps antennas for my navigator and G5's. Quote
