zehutiman Posted June 4, 2022 Report Posted June 4, 2022 So, I'm entertaining the purchase of a Mooney, and there's one advertised as a "1986 Mooney M20K 252TSE." But, when I look through the logbooks, they state that it's a 1985 Mooney and, the N number was different early in its life, too (the serial number is the same throughout the logbooks). I thought 252's weren't produced until 1986. Yet, this one has a TSIO-360-MB. How can I tell which model it is? Adding a bit of fog to the question is that, at the present time, I'm not able to view the initial logbooks -- soon, I hope. Thanks for any input. Quote

Not unusual for an airplane produced in 1985 to be a 1986 model. The only way to tell for sure is the serial number. The 252 started with 25-1000. The 231 ended with 25-0889 Quote

carusoam Posted June 4, 2022 Report Posted June 4, 2022 Welcome aboard Ze! Great questions… Some planes get updated to more modern status… The seller may have left out some finer details… of how it became what it is today…. Some popular upgrades were called 262s… an upgraded 231 that retained its 12V electrical system… Sounds like a good conversation to be had with the seller…. People really love their 252s… Go Mooney! PP thoughts only, not a plane sales guy… Best regards, -a- Quote

Moot point, I guess, but thanks for clearing that up. Quote
carusoam Posted June 4, 2022 Report Posted June 4, 2022 Airplane builders never got that model year thing worked out very well…. Not sure the car builders have yet either…. -a- Quote
