David M20J Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 My old OAT sensor quit working, I'm working out of town so cant get to the plane to take a picture, but it was something like this I do have a GNX 375 and was thinking about getting the Garmin GTP 59 https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/garmin_10-06970.php then I looked at the price and was like well if im going to spend that much what about a Davtron, I use something like this in the aircraft I fly for work https://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/in/chronometers_davtron/davtronclock.php Was curious about other peoples thoughts and pros and cons for each. I do really like having the timer, Local time, UTC, and all that jazz, or maybe im just use to that instrument. Im also not sure if there would be additional benefits for my 375 if I got the probe for it. I am also running two 275s Thanks -David Quote
Mooney Dog Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 Looks like the older probes like you had are just under $100. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/scott_therm.php?clickkey=8861597 I personally would have liked to have an OAT hooked up to my G5/375 combo. I had asked for it when i was getting the avionics put in but the kit never got ordered. Its something ill eventually get im sure. For now my temp gauge in the window works though. 1 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 DA, Tas, winds velocity/direction all come to mind when you add a temp input. But I don’t have a -375 or -275, so check into that. Quote
carusoam Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 The Scott OAT gauge is classic… Doubles as a VFR ice detector when mounted through the windshield… Going electric is costly… but worth it… for IMC. For improved accuracy… The sensor gets mounted under the wing, out of the sun, and away from the engine heat… High end air data computers will want to be connected to OAT sensors… PP thoughts only, not an avionics guru… Best regards, -a- Quote
Will.iam Posted April 19, 2022 Report Posted April 19, 2022 GT-50 has OAT and g-meter recording in same unit for those headbanger turbulence you can go back and see just how strong those bumps were in case your seat of the pants needs calibration. https://https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/flightdatafc50.php Quote
