heat shield mat for cowling?

Recommended Posts

I noticed a few bubbles in the paint on the lower part of the cowling on the passenger side.  It appears to be from exhaust heat.  I have an EGT, and I don't let my exhaust temps get that high (usually 1400 or less).  I thought about trying some type of insulating mat.  BTW, I have a 201 cowling and powerflo exhaust.

Two questions.  Is it something that's legal to add, and is it something I can do myself (legally)?  Most of the info I've seen on google seem to be from experimental forums.  Secondly, do they work very well?

Thanks
