So I've got a 1980 M20 K in for annual. Last annual was July2020 and last pitot static check and transponder cert was 11/2019. Current shop telling me there's a pitot static leak, traced it all the way to the gear safety switch that doesn't allow the gear to retract below a certain speed. When they bypass the switch the pitot static pressurizes just fine wiht no leak. Question I have is, isn't there an SB or something that allows this switch to be disconnected from the system?  I thought this was an option.

lvp,

See if you can expand on your question a tad…

when you say disconnect the switch…

Are you asking permanently?

if yes…. What would you replace it with?

The lowest cost method to handle a leaking safety pressure switch… is simply have the switch fixed… :)

Seems like your mechanic didn’t give you the usual options that go with this typical wear problem…

There is an OH for that switch… if your mechanic can tell that it isn’t working properly…

No need to come up with new procedures yet… or install the lesser capable system from the years gone by….

What are you trying to really do?

Best regards,

I'm not a mechanic but I recently had problems with my airspeed safety switch.  I would put the plane on jacks and see if it works properly (see if the gear comes up at the expected airspeed).  If it does, maybe the leak is just in the fittings and there's nothing wrong with the switch.  If it doesn't, put it on the bench for testing and troubleshooting.  Mine was sticking closed.  Those switches are expensive new; $1400-$1500.  I would also ask your mechanic whether he's seeing a Pitot leak or a Static leak.  My airspeed switch is not connected to the static line; only the Pitot line.  I don't know if that is correct but it's how mine is installed and it works fine.
