Saw an ad for Gleim’s BATD today. 
 

This is literally off the shelf parts with a touchscreen panel.  If you’re semi computer literate, you could put this together over a weekend for half the cost.  
 

Does that mean that the FAA is approving simple versions of BATDs these days? Or did the Gleim folks just have an “in”.

More expensive than flythissim by $600, less than a Redbird by a grand. 

I'd love to be able to stay paper current at home, but six grand is still a lot for a PC-based flight simulator.
