I understand how to compare one plane to another. What I was asking is does this seem reasonable? It is the only A model I have been able to find for comparison. I have been able to find B and C models but not A and I realize they aren't a fare comparison.

The only reason an M20A interests me is a family friend offered to sell me his, with the hangar. They are both on the same airport I currently keep my C150

There is another Albertan with an A model that is in the “owner maintenance category” he isn’t having much luck selling it.  I don’t know if it’s the model or the owner maintenance category?

Mandatory Service Bulletin M20-170A required replacement of the wood empennage with the all metal empennage assembly within one year. Quoted price was $860.00!

I think this was somewhere in 1968-72.

Here are a couple of images -  my M20A,  N8335E.  Sorry for the inverted images, no matter what I upload - it's always inverted - even inverted photos ...!?

The blue tape is a rubberized adhesive tape that seals water out of the rear spar area, under the aft tank.1130191241_HDR.thumb.jpg.ae409570cba0903e72994305141ef391.jpg

So I made the jump and purchased the M20A. So far everything has turned out good. The pre buy didn't turn up anything that wasn't expected. However, upon taking possession of the documents I noticed that the POH was hand typed out by his wife (looks like on an old typewriter). He said the old one got damaged so his wife retyped it. Where can I find a new one?

Congrats on the acquisition...

Recognize that the M20A came with a few pages called an owner’s manual...

It will be missing most of the detail that a Poh has...

1) Contact the Mooney factory via your MSC to get an official OM that represents your plane... it is one of the AROW documents...

2) Ask which POH from a later 180hp M20 best represents the plane you have...

When using a POH from a different ship... know when to stay on the path... know when following the path will lead to grief...

know how to confirm your ship’s performance against book values...

3) there are both OMs and POHs around here for examples...

PP thoughts only...

Best regards,

Downloads section. POH

Mine looks like that, just the year is wrong. Mine is a 59 and that says 1960. Don't remember any other discrepancies.
