Any approved oil,  as long as you change it often.  By often I mean by calendar time as well as hourly.  I have had people request to not have their oil changed at annual time since it only has 20 hours on it since last annual.....That's not often.

John Green, I handle my Bravo exactly like your doing, same oil cam guard and 8-9 knots over book. I've been using aeroshell multi, since 1987, never even changed a jug ( hope I just didn't jinx myself), I've also researched with Mike Busch and decided not to change since I've never had an issue. I spoke with Don Maxwell and asked his opinion at last annual, and Dorn at Weber's the previous 7 annuals both said don't change what works for you. I'm not suggesting anyone change what there doing just relaying my experience which mirrors Johns

Like above, any oil is probably fine, if it's changed regularly. Just an FYI though, according to the POH for the 231, 15w50 is the recommended oil for most temperatures. Top gun (MSC) recommended that for my 231.

As noted below Aviation Consumer asserted that synthetics are not needed for aircraft engines because the oil change interval is short.

Youi'll see most race cars running production based motors running full synthetics where leaded fuel is not used, even though oil is changed frequently .

I used exon elite with good results in the TSIO 360 MB normally run at 70%.  Would not fly a high performance engine without semi synthetic (aircraft) or full synthetic with non leaded fuels.

The Mobil AV-1 horror stories were true and replicated problems in race motors which ran more than 30 hours running Redline full synthetic and wet sumps .  The semi synthetics are compounded to keep the lead in suspension.

If you have a Continental I/O 550 as in an Ovation, be careful about using Camguard. It has been suggested that it can cause slipage in your starter adapter. Repair or replacement is expensive.
