takair Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 I read some time ago that lightning is available on ADS-B. I have the unfortunate NavWorks system and don’t see lightning. It generally performs well otherwise, but there is no upgrade path. Are others seeing the lightning product on their ADS-B? I have a couple friends with Garmin and Stratus who don’t see it either. kortopates Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Yes, Garmin Pilot supports it. But without product updates for your client, you of course won't be seeing any of the new products being provided via ADS-b FIS.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

kortopates Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Yes, with GDL-39 3D and Garmin Pilot. See https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/aviation/new-ads-b-flight-information-service-broadcast-fis-b-weather-products/Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
takair Posted July 6, 2019 Author Report Posted July 6, 2019 Thanks Paul! Anyone with ForeFlight seeing this in flight? Which subscription? Quote
Mark89114 Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 I just recently started getting in flight with stratus and foreflight. Not 100% sure how it works or what the reliability of it either. Quote
warren.huisman Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 I get lightning with ForeFlight Pro plus received through my Garmin gtx345 transponder. I will say I see more activity in terms of lighting on my strikefinder than on my tablet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
DXB Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 I'm starting to get it on Foreflight + Stratus 2 as my ADSB-in. Don't really trust it much yet. Quote

Keep in mind that FIS-B lightning is only cloud-to-ground lightning and that may have some significant consequences as I discuss in detail in my blog. 2 Quote
Bryan Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 I have a GTX345 and just recently got the update for the GTN 750 (firmware update) to take advantage of the ADS-B new weather products on the GTN. I think that newest firmware just came out a couple/few weeks ago to display on the GTN's. An onboard stormscope (WX-500 in my case) shows so much more information than the FIS-B product but glad it is avaiable. More information, the better. 1 Quote
M20F Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 I have a 650 and 345 fully up to date (new install) and not seeing any option or details on lighting display. How do you get it displayed? Quote
hoot777 Posted May 3, 2021 Report Posted May 3, 2021 I have a 650 and do not get lightning in flight. Get it on iPad at home with internet. I think I’ve heard there is a free update from Garmin that has to be installed by my dealer. Any feedback would be appreciated. And as I know has been said before there is a delay in what we are seeing on our devices it is not tactical information like a wx radar. Please give all weather respect. Quote
