For those that haven't dealt with this yet

430 Garmin- GDL 39 what recommendations for compliance? Its a 79 J good shape, but IO don't want to go Avionics poor with it, any help would be great

You need to ask yourself a few questions before you decide what is the best equipment to install.

Will I want to fly outside of the US?

Will I want to upgrade my 430 to a W.

What kind of xponder do I have currently installed?

The GDL 82 and the upcoming Sky Beacon only broadcast on 978 UAT. That is US only. The 82 will not work with an S mode xponder.

The rest of the world is adopting 1090 ES as the standard.

Just a few thoughts, I am sure that is not all the questions?

Chan,

you might want to describe your desire to get to a solution...

Is it a mimum budget to achieve the 2020 deadline?

-or-

Getting as much as possible on a minimum budget?

-or-

I need an explanation for the VP of Finance, why I am spending the college fund on a new panel...?

on a minimum budget, I’d want ADSB compliance and WAAS approaches too...

On a few amu more...

upgrade the 430 to W, or trade for the Avidyne....

We have an electronics shop around here that has Avidyne deals for swaps....

Do you like touch screens and wireless com?

I'm a permanent resident in the CB club...

Best regards,

CB = Cost/Benefit yes?  Just trying to get a handle on form terminology.

THIS might be an option for you.

Why do so many / most of the "low cost" ADS-B units include a GPS and antenna? They seem to ignore those of us who already have a WAAS unit in the panel. This is another part of why I'm not going to comply . . .
