N5MD Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Does anyone have this unit installed in their Mooney? I'm looking to install one in my 1966 M20C with the O360 Lycoming engine. More at http://www.insightavionics.com/tf500.htm (vincentkdunn@yahoo.com) Quote
danb35 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 I'd much rather have a separate fuel flow instrument, FWIW. Quote
N5MD Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 OK, Dan. What are you using in your Mooney? I'm open to suggestions. Quote
flight2000 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Not Dan, but I'm installing the EI FP-5L here in about a week. Interfaces with the 430W and has the visible displays also. Brian Quote
N5MD Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 Thanks, Brian. The E.I. FP-5L is the other unit I'm considering. Since I also have the G430W it seems like a good choice also. Quote
Barry Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 I've the JPI FS-450 in my '66C and love it. Interfaces with the 430, no problem. Quote
danb35 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Also have the FP-5L, and also very happy with it. I suspect the LCD on the FP-5L is more readable in direct sunlight than the LED display in the JPI, but the JPI shows current fuel consumption all the time (with another function--total fuel used, fuel remaining, time to empty, etc., on a second line) while the FP-5L has only a single display. EI has run a number of rebates in the past which bring the cost down to under $400, but I don't see one active right now. It runs $515 at Gulf Coast Avionics at the moment--I expect that as we get closer to Sun 'n' Fun we'll see some bargains though. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to go with a unit like the Insight would be if there were simply no room available on the panel for a 2.25" instrument. Quote
ElectronicsInt Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 1. The FP-5(L) also has a AUX input for an additional engine function/temp/ PSI etc. (secondary version only) 2. Is available in two different STC approval types. One is secondary/supplemental instrumentation. One comes bundled with flow and fuel pressure and replaces factory "PRIMARY" Mooney fuel flow/PSI equipment. 3. Utilizes the most advanced flow transducers in the business. Put 1000 of them in a row and they will all have identical outputs and less pressure loss across them then the other units out there. Best regards, Matt Quote
