Aviator Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 My Ovation is getting a GTX 345 installed this week. Already in the panel is a 750/650 combo. I am looking at compatible EFB options and considering Garmin Pilot running on a Samsung Tab S 2. Any thoughts/ comments will be much appreciated.
Glenn Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 I recently had a Garmin FS210 installed so my iPad/Foreflight will exchange filghtplans with a GNS430W. I have only used it for two short flights but am very enthused. I am planing Indianapolis to Tampa next week for SnF. I will know more then.
Cruiser Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 the GTX345 will feed both GPS with traffic and weather. They are touch screen. What are you going to do with the Samsung and Garmin Pilot?
Aviator Posted March 30, 2016 Author Report Posted March 30, 2016 Good question Cruiser. At least initially I will keep XM weather running on the 750/650 and ADSB weather on the tablet, while I evaluate and compare the weather products. Additionally it will provide backup for the maps and charts in the panel. I also have paper copies of appropriate approach charts for an IFR flight.

I ran Garmin Pilot on a Nexus 7 for a year while I had it on an iPad as well. The Android version of GP was always a little behind on features that were already on the iPad version. There is or was a thread on PoA that had people commenting on the Android version. I think most of the features have been added, like dynamic maps. There may still be some that weren't.
Bob - S50 Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 The GTX345 is supposed to work with either Garmin Pilot (Apple or Android) and Foreflight. I use Pilot on two Android devices. We only have the GTN650, not two GPS's like some people! I plan to run my tablet split screen with sectional overlayed with weather on one side and traffic on the other. I'll just use the traffic overlay on the GTN. I keep my approach charts on my tablet and phone and use my phone, attached to the yoke, for the approach plates. Even if I had a GTN750 I still wouldn't get flight charts on it. If I'm already paying for flight charts on my phone, why pay for them again for a GTN750? Plus, the chart on my phone on the yoke is in my line of sight. I'd have to look to the right to read the charts on the GTN. Less head movement when IMC. Please let us know how you like your GTX345 once you get it up and running.
