I have a 1964c #2799.  O-360-A1D. Left mag Slick 4347, right mag Slick 4370.  I want to replace the wire harness to my mags that were recently overhauled.

The Kelly Aerospace application site says I should use KA14004.  I was at Spruce today in Corona and they agree with the application site.  However, the harness I have on the plane has these numbers, left M2513, and right M2512 a Slick harness.  This would correspond to a different part number for a different engine, a O-360-A4N

Question is would you go with the application site from Kelly Aerospace or replace with the similar one taken off the plane.  My feeling is that the last mechanic could be wrong who installed the current harness and got lucky that it worked.

Why does this have to be so difficult?

This turned out to be a big discussion at the counter in Spruce and other mechanics all had different answers.  It even was suggested I did not have shower of sparks.  I think I do.  I thought we all did on these older birds......

So what part number would be suggested to go with for Kelly Aerospace?

Or replace with a Slick harness for the correct application from their site which would be either M4004 or M4014 which I have no idea the difference....

Thank you in advance

Jim, west coast

An 0-360 is an 0-360, the model differences are mostly internal or accessories. All you need to know is what mag you have and (bendix and slick are not interchangeable) engine. Use the Kelly application chart in Spruce, you'll be fine.

Actually there is a difference in the harness if your right mag fires the number 1 cylinder first it will be one part number.  If your left mag fires the number 1 cylinder first  it will be another.  And then if you have an impulse coupling or not it will be even another.....this is all according to Spruce......

I would hope they are both firing the #1 at the same time.  The difference is likely due to to if the length of wire depending if it goes to the top or bottom plug.  I think the lycoming parts manual show an alternative wire routing for most engines.

Jim,

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like there is nor safety wire on the oil pressure regulator cap.

I just checked that cap in person. There is no safety wire on it and it looks like it has never been there. It can accommodate it though

Is it required ? I left a note for my mechanic asking him about it.

The only difference in the harnesses is the length of the wires. If you like the way the wires are with the current harness then get another one of those. If some are too long or too short then try the other harness.

Safety wire is definitely required, if it comes loose or off your oil will exit rather quickly.

I just took this picture.  There is safety wire around it.  It is just hard to see.  It comes up from the bottom and is through the hole on the upper left....
