DrBill Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 Did a 2.6 hr breakin flight a week ago and 30 mins in the vacuum pump went. So today the A&P and I take it out. Yep drive broke.. he opened up the vanes and they are AOK. Will order a new one tonite. Any tips on getting the lower left nut on ? Was a bear to get off. Bill Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 There is Teflon tape on the fittings. That is a big no no. 2 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 If I recall, if you remove the oil screen you get better access to that nut. Quote
slowflyin Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Spruce sells a nice purpose built wrench. Well worth it. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 1 Quote
cliffy Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Get the correct wrench as mentioned No problem after that. Don't use teflon tape as mentioned Dry installation Quote
DrBill Posted February 23, 2016 Author Report Posted February 23, 2016 Awesome,, will order wrench with pump !! Similar to my old distributor wrench !!.. Priceless. Right on the teflon tape.. that was there when i got the plane. Bill Quote

That's just not as much fun as using a long screwdriver to tap each face of the lower nut. You'd never catch me missing out on that fun! I thought that when the drive shaft shears, it is usually due to vane wear causing rotational resistance even though the vanes may look okay. Edited February 23, 2016 by Mooneymite Quote

DrBill Posted February 24, 2016 Author Report Posted February 24, 2016 NO, it will be a while the ad is on Barnstormers or Controller, search for Wilgrove. I'll continue to use Mark for a while, his attention to detail is really good. Bill 1 Quote
merrja Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Bill, How did the engine break in go? Quote

Awesome, I figure one quart burned in 2.6 hrs so well below acceptable for that flight.. Will keep using mineral oil for 4-5 more hours. 75% 155 kts avg groundspeed at 4750 ft. No lean so fuel burn was over 12 gph!! Bill 1 Quote
DrBill Posted March 2, 2016 Author Report Posted March 2, 2016 REPLACED PUMP yesterday and was a snap using new WRENCH !! Thanks for the tip..\ flew and all was well. All EGT And CHT sensors now working were bundled with ignition wires, I separated and all is good. Had a good time. Bill 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 TC wires carry mV signals, and are sensitive to RF noise. Ignition wires carry 1000s of volts, and enjoy spewing RF noise. This kind of problem usually effects the guys without an electrical engineering background. How did that happen, Bill? Best regards, -a- Quote
DrBill Posted March 3, 2016 Author Report Posted March 3, 2016 Mechanic did the work and I was too busy to check... BTW.. TC signals are in MICROVOLTS !! Thats how I caught it.. I read the GEM install guide.. For once I read the instructions !!! Bill 1 Quote
