IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

The Government of the Bahamas Department of Civil Aviation has temporarily closed the Staniel Cay airstrip for improvements, effective immediately.

To our valued customers,

We were recently informed the Staniel Cay airport will be temporarily closed for improvements. During this brief closure, Watermakers Air and Staniel Cay Yacht Club will continue to provide our guests with the exemplary service they have come to enjoy and expect from us. An alternate access route to Staniel Cay will be available through Blackpoint, Exuma. This is located about 10-15 minutes away from Staniel Cay via ferry boat.

We will provide complimentary ground transportation to/from from the Blackpoint airport to the dock (and vice versa), as well as transportation to/from Blackpoint to the SCYC dock via ferry boat. For those departing Staniel Cay, please be sure to check-in at the SCYC Marina office at 8am if you are departing on the 9:30am flight and at 2pm if you are departing on our 3:30pm flight.

“The Department of Civil Aviation wishes to announce the temporary closure of the Runway at Staniel Cay, Exuma. The closure will allow for the immediate repair of sections of the runway by the Ministry of Works and Urban Development.  The Ministry of Works & Urban Development has undertaken to complete the requisite work within the shortest possible time.

The Civil Aviation Department has issued a NOTAM and has further advised the local Administrator so as to assure all stakeholders are informed as to the temporary closure.

During the closure of the runway, an alternative access route to Staniel Cay is by flying into nearby Black Point, Exuma, and taking a five minute ferry to Staniel Cay.

The Department of Civil Aviation apologizes for any inconvenience caused as a result of this temporary closure, however the safety of all users remains our paramount concern.”
