C-FRJI Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 I was going through GE 4522 bulbs about once a year. I added a very thin rubber faced aluminum mounting ring to the installation. I have two 4522 bulbs on the shelf and the old one won't die.it has been four years! (I fly 80-100 hours a year) I'd like to switch to LED....but.... Quote

I have two 4522 bulbs on the shelf and the old one won't die.it has been four years! (I fly 80-100 hours a year) I'd like to switch to LED....but.... Sounds like mine, it lasted 4 or 5 years. Finally, it worked well on dusk preflight and departure; three hours later, coming home to my 3000' field with trees at both ends, I couldn't see the parallel fudge as well as normal. Sure enough, on final the trees were invisible, too. But I knew to hold 700 msl until I could see the green REIL lights, which meant I was past the trees. Ordered my Whelen Parmetheus the next day. Just turned it off for the second time since May, as I was taxiing in for annual last week. Quote
