FlyDave Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 Every year I fill out the California tax forms and send them to the California BOE (Board Of Equalization). On their web site their mission is stated as "The mission of the State Board of Equalization (BOE) is to serve the public through fair, effective, and efficient tax administration." Not sure I agree with this - starting with the agency name! Dasvidanya, Comrade...... Quote

I was "lucky"when I was living in California: I got exempted due to being an active duty military member serving in a state that is not my home of record. Seriously, plane owners, California hates you (us): Oregon, however, is very GA friendly and a 2 year registration on your car will only cost you $86.00 bucks... Just sayin'... Quote
Bennett Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 I like the billboard that is on Highway 5 as you cross into Oregon from California: "Don't californicate Oregon". In the old days you could take delivery of your airplane in Oregon, buy a 6 month tie-down in Oregon, and arrange an Oregon phone number and address (firms to do this were easily available), and avoid the California Sales Tax which then only applied to sales in California. If the aircraft was "out of state" for the first six months of ownership, you were exempt from the Sales Tax. Not anymore, but I keep hearing people say that they are doing this. The Use Tax will get them sooner or later. Quote
47U Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 I was able to avoid the CA BOE with a family transfer of the aircraft title in 2008, even though the airplane was out of state. The county gets their 1% every year, though. They also slap me with property tax on the ground I LEASE from the City that my T-hangar (which I own) sits on. I can't complain, though. Lease on the ground is only $80/month and hasn't gone up for 20 years. Who gets a hangar for $80/month? The third Saturday of every month is "display day" at LHM for the exempt guys and the City knocks 20 cents off the price of 100LL for the whole weekend, including this past three-day President's Day weekend. Avgas for $4.74/gallon... Can't beat that with a stick! LRAA hosts the display day... Free coffee and doughnuts, too! Quote

RJBrown Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 I will be moving to Arizona soon. Once situated I will buy another Mooney. What are the rules in the valley of the Sun? Quote
