231Pilot Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 My '67 C tracked left on landing until an FBO powertowed it and bent the nose gear assembly. After replacement of the damaged part, she tracked great....must have been improperly rigged when I bought her. I too thought that was just how Mooneys land. I learned I was wrong. My '82 J has always tracid straight and true. I have used Don's method of handling too tight fuel caps for a cople of years and it works like a charm. Quote
mooneygirl Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Is it just me, or.... I was taught not to do "touch and goes" in a Mooney. Although right now I cannot remember the thinking behind it. Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Jolie, touch and goes in a Mooney are more of a handful than many other planes because of the relatively large trim changes between the landing attitude and takeoff attitude. If one has electric trim (I don't) and gets on it right after touchdown, then it isn't as huge of a deal as it is with manual trim. If one forgets to re-trim before taking off again, well, then you have a huge problem to address in a high workload situation. I've only done a handful of touch and goes in my plane, and only on long runways where I have time to roll and re-trim before powering up. Quote

Parker_Woodruff Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Don rotated the nose collar on mine for proper tracking...it always went slightly sideways till he worked on it the first time. They just know how to do stuff right (and efficiently!!) around there...and I'm so comfortable with them I'm even on edge about taking my plane to Dugosh next week for some simple stuff like seat rollers. <sidenote> I'm also taking my yokes off and going to drive them to AeroComfort down the road in San Antonio. My non pilot dad really had a good idea for my b-day. He asked "you gonna get these redone?" and pointed at the chipping white painted yokes when I took him up for his first Mooney ride last month. Maybe he thought there was something missing from that new Acclaim i pointed out to him. </sidenote> Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Parker, you're gonna love that treatment! AeroComfort did mine last year, and made some sheepskin covers for my front seats too...both are tremendous improvements. I've been thinking about replacing my seat rollers too to "firm up" my seat connections, so please share your experience with that work when it is done. Quote

ErickR Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 I'll make this short cause I don't think anyone is still following this tread. Finally got the repair made with the lazer mod and went out today for some test landings... Everything works great! Tracks straight down center line. I still have a little shimmy when taxiing, I think that is due to a worn steering arm bushing maybe we'll replace it later. Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Excellent news! Fix that bushing sooner rather than later as it will just accelerate wear in the system. Quote
Mcstealth Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Good luck. Glad you are on the straight and narrow now Quote
