skibum3d Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Hi, The leather door strap on the interior aft side of the door of my M20C broke during one of my last flights when I tugged it a bit too hard. I'm looking for a replacement but not having much luck on eBay or Google. Do any of you have any leads for such a silly part? Thanks! Quote
jpjp Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Aero Comfort has them. I think it was around $20 for a pair when I bought mine but it was a while back. Quote
jetdriven Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Tell hector you want the nylon ballistic strap sewn inside it. It prevents stretching. I have one. Quote
skibum3d Posted December 17, 2013 Author Report Posted December 17, 2013 Perfect, thanks to both of you. One of these days I'm going to have to have Hector redo the full interior. Quote
AmigOne Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Skybum, I had 3 made in leather (different shades of beige), kept one, gave one to a Mooney owner in Canada and I'll try to find the third one this week when I go to check on my airplane. No charge, I just have to find it. That is if beige suits you, if you need another color let me know and I will not look for it. Quote
skibum3d Posted December 17, 2013 Author Report Posted December 17, 2013 AmigOne, thanks! I'd very much appreciate that. The current broken strap and the aircraft interior are beige, therefore yours would probably match -- you'll just need to let me know where I can send a case of microbrew for when the weather is bad. 1 Quote
mjc Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 I took my manager flying in my Mooney several years ago and when he went to close the door, the strap broke. I told him not to worry but he insisted on fixing it. He took it home and sewed washers on the sides (where it broke). It was very strong after that. Quote
HRM Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 When I had leather seats put in I was given a box of scrap leather--I made the strap with a piece of it and my wife sewed it up for me. I put a piece of nylon strap inside anchored to the attachment bolts. Piece of cake, looks great, will outlast me. Quote
Piloto Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 I had the same problem and decided to make an aluminum bracket instead of the strap. It is easier to pull on the door and will last forever. A nice Sunday project. José Quote

I need some like this for another project and would love to find some white silicone about like this. Thanks Quote

They have these in different colors at Pep Boys for door edge protection. José Quote

AmigOne Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 SkiBum, will be going tomorrow (Thursday) to the airport and will let you know if I find the strap. Quote
BigTex Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Seriously guys... Just give Hector a call at Aero Comfort and order one. They're only $20 for a pair in a color of your choice. Quote
Piloto Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 A simple way to make one is just to trim and old leather belt into the strap dimensions and you got it. José Quote
AmigOne Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Skibum, sorry I could not find the door handle. There are some good suggestions here, I would ad that if you have a wife or girlfriend that can use a sewing machine you can buy a small piece of leatherette in a fabric store and one can be easily sewn. Regards. Quote
skibum3d Posted December 22, 2013 Author Report Posted December 22, 2013 Thank you for looking AmigOne. Thanks to everyone else too. After the holidays, I'm going to give Hector a call and have a few made. I know I could make one myself, but at $20 for quality workmanship, I'll leave it to the pro. Quote
