Jeev Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Hello - My J is in annual and the threads in the #3 and possible #4 injector holes are stripped. This is the first annual after the factory overhauled engine was installed so this had to happen at the factory and it will most likely be covered by Lycoming. We have a call into the Lyc rep but I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and how it was fixed. I am hoping it is acceptable to re tap the hole instead of replace the cylinder as I need the plane back ASAP... Thank you, SP
apriav Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Wow, I have been in the business for almost 40 years and never heard of anything like that on new Lycoming cylinders. The injectors are brass and the cylinders are aluminum. Lycoming will fix it if you have a problem. Regards,
Shadrach Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I had an issue with injectors being removed at annual and then the MX neglected to tighten one of them up. The injector worked loose and the vibration chewed up the threads... We used a tap to clean up the threads and retorqued it. The injectors have not been removed since.
