Best Mooney Mechanic In Southern California?

Recommended Posts

So I finally got my bird yesterday!  Yes, years of annoying everyone with questions finally paid off and I am a legitimate Mooniac (1983 201).  Now the new, improved, owner questions shall commence.

I'm going to need a place to get my plane serviced and I'm not sure where to start.  I was thinking Foothill Aircraft, but I'm not really sure

.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Most 201s did not have prop deice. Most 231s did. Top center of panel is where the switch was on my 1980 231. Can you post a panel picture so we can answer the question? No it is not automatic.

Congrats! I'm across the way at KVNY so we should go flying some day.

I've used Bill's Air Center at KSMO for a variety of work over the years, including (bi)annuals, with good results. Every other year, though, I make the trip up to LASAR at Lampson Field for my annual and usually an upgrade or two. (Actually, the past two times, they even picked up and delivered, for a small fee.) Top Gun at Stockton would be another good option for annuals.

Yup, I bought 77V!  It's a solid plane with a new B6 engine.  I have a KLN94 (instead of a G430w), but I figure I'll upgrade when the next big thing comes out.  Flew back from Arizona yesterday and tomorrow I start my transition training.  Flies sooo smooth.

I'm no longer at KVNY, so it looks like 16L Pilot will be coming to an end (as soon as I think of a new name).

Congrats!! Welcome! I have two mechanic places, one is a local on my airport (long beach), which I use to keep me flying for the year without having to go anywhere, second is a service center which I do my annuals in. My recommendation is Lasar, yes it's further, but they do a good job. Have not heard any thing negative or positive about Foothill or Crown aviation in San Diego. Would love to hear some feedback if anyone has ever used either one of these service centers.

CrownAir has always done a great job for me and knows our Mooney's well. They are very thorough and practical. After doing a prebuy with well known and beloved Mooney mechanic in another state who also happen to do the annuals, I feel that I have a good comparison. Lesson learned on having a different mechanic do a pre buy than does the annuals no matter how popular or well known they are.  CrownAir is very busy and has a Cirrus flight club they service that is growing like. Getting in at times can be a problem, schedule your annuals well in advance.  There is a surprizingly high amount of prop strikes on the Cirrus. The Mechanics prefer to work on Mooney's over the plastic planes so you will be taken care of.

+1 The piston maintenance group at CrownAir originally came from a Mooney dealer and service center on the field many years ago and they have been Mooney specialist ever since. Many of their staff have 20-30 years Mooney experience and know their way around the various airframes very well. They also have a guy that has 20+ years of engine overhaul experience. They're a very capable Mooney shop.
