sleepingsquirrel Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 POA forum discussion worth study. May allow modifications to certified aircraft without ruining the ability to return to certified status. Instead of experimental for a Mooney it just becomes non-commercial use while using un-approved parts. This is indeed good news for all GA. " WOOO-HOOO!!!!! Read Appendix G! Primary Non Commercial Category! It's even better than I hoped as it allows a simple way to convert back to Normal Category by removing non PMA-TSO parts and can be done by any IA. Rock on, this means cheap glass and auto pilots for our aging fleet and potential engine conversions." http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/rulemaking/committees/documents/media/Part.23.Reorganization.ARC.FINAL.Report.pdf 1 Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 If that were to be the case, it would really make a BIG DIFFERENCE... Quote
DonMuncy Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Geez. Did anyone really read that. I started and after 20 or 30 pages, just bogged down. I hope the new rules they advocate are more concise than the report. Quote
sleepingsquirrel Posted October 13, 2013 Author Report Posted October 13, 2013 Start at the last page and read toward the front in appendix G. Nobody will read it that will actually vote on it either. Quote
ChrisH Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Page 309, great proposal. Basically, any 4-seat non-turbine, non-pressurized 20year old plane that is current (inspections) can be turned into non-commercial (mostly abiding by experimental rules). You can work on it, install non-PMA and best of all turn it back into commercial (if you desire) through an A&P inspection. Game changer for the experimental guys (RV) great news for part 21 guys (go brand BCMP). Quote
aerohawk Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 It will be nice to take a good 40 year old airframe like the mooney and upgrade it with the latest and great gear. If this ends up becoming rule in its current form, I think it will be the game changer that GA fleet needs to survive. No longer will the phone in you pocket be more advanced they your entire airplane. WooHoooooo:) Quote
OR75 Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 not really OK with this. sounds like a pay now or pay later deal. isn't anyone already able to convert a certified Mooney to experimental today ? the issue to me is why does it cost so much to certify some parts ( like seat belts, airbags, etc ...)
