Oscar: ARI. A previous owner, Ronald Westbrook of Chickamauga GA, retired military, airline pilot, rest his soul, chose to make my '66E into his ideal retirement airplane. My 2nd landing light was installed locally with the kit LASAR provided. -
C and E main tanks are different? Fs and Js?

Did you have to certify in more than one model? Which one was used?

Neither is very current. http://www.aopa.org/members/vref/ The Garrison link is still included in the latest Mooney Flyer http://www.themooneyflyer.com/FLIP-FEBa/index.html#p=6 but the target site is missing. Maybe it's being updated - it was several years old.

I had not looked at Vref in a couple of years. Disappointed to find they still do not list for vintage Mooneys such popular options as GTNs, Aspen, JPI EDMs, GDL 88, AOA sensors, Powerflow exhausts. Jimmy Garrison's spreadsheet linked on Mooney Flyer has some but not all of these.

Dave, 64 gallons might work for you. 5+ hours plus reserves is more than I care to do in one leg. And bladders are a "permanent" fix for the sealant issue. (I've have the 54 gallon bladders since '97 and every now and then think I'd like to add the 10 gallon extension. But I usually remind myself that neither Nancy nor I want to spend over 4 hours without a stretch and potty stop. I guess I have more occasions when I take 4 adults for relatively short trips than I have trips when an extra 10 gallons would save a stop. 64 gallons and 4 adults do not work with our 2575 gross.) I know you've put a lot of TLC & improvements into your C. http://www.onaircraft.com/products-services/mooney-bladders/

I suspect that a lot of the noise, as well as cabin heat comes from the firewall. It's tough to insulate those irregular surfaces behind the panel, rudder pedals, etc. My '66 had the original (filthy, oily, hydraulicy) insulation hanging loose in that area when I got her. I've been in there a half dozen times working on it. Need to be a jockey sized contortionist. Dave, would you venture to guess how much your improvement was due to insulation vs. window thickness?

I went with 3/16" solar gray from GLAP all around a few months ago. The installation was straight forward. I have the LASAR 201 windshield mod and 1/4" there would be quite a bit more installation time. The rear windows were 1/8" originally ('66E). On balance, I think I made the right choices.

That's what I did. Automotive headliner passes flame spread spec easily. Check out my gallery for pics.

Okay, I think you or he were looking for a ferry pilot on another thread. I suggested Brandon NeSmith out of MRN & HKY,

Averaged over 315 hours per year for 24 years! Well done.

New owner on MS? Where in NC?

I paid $1788.55, inc frt, for 5 (GLAP) windows, all solar gray, 3/16" with vents installed in both pilot window and door. (The w'shield was $463 + frt.) Add $82.94 for sealant. The labor invoice was combined with several other repairs: 24.2 hours "repairs to elevator trim system including overhaul gear box, Disassemble and overhaul fuel selector valve. Strip, blast and repaint nose wheel. Install all 5 windows." I'd guess the windows were about half those hours. (But I probably put in at least another 20 hours r/r seats, carpets, glare shield, interior panels, removing windows, cleaning old adhesive from frames, and assisting installing new windows.)

I did a lot of the work myself in my hanger. Lynn (my A&P) did the drilling, mixed and applied the 2 part adhesive. His time for the whole job was a few hours worked in while we were doing the annual. The door and side windows are legal owner maintenance.

I don't know. Did Mooney go to 1/4" on later Js or newer, models?
-
I went with GLAP 3/16" SC Gray all around. On my old E the original back windows were 1/8", the w'shield, pilot, and door were 3/16".. (1/4" would have worked okay on the side windows but would have been pretty mean for the w'shield (I have the LASAR 201 STC) since the edge would have to be chamfered to fit the slot. As it was, we fit, marked, cut about 6 times installing the w'shield. I upgraded the door with a vent door to match the pilot window. GLAP offers those pre-assembled which I went with. I found LP to be quite a bit higher than GLAP. Cee Baileys is quite a bit cheaper and caters to lots of older GA planes but is not tooled for J and newer Mooneys! I would sure do the windows first if I were painting as well. Especially for my E which has a lot of screws going through paint.

I'm signed up. Hope to make a side trip Friday or Monday to Kerrville while we're in TX.

There are several recent threads on MS. I replaced all my windows a few months ago and posted pics and info on what I learned.

Any words of wisdom for a new 1964 M20E owner?

And check the age of the throttle, mixture, prop cables. They are easier to replace while the engine is off. McFarlane recommends replacing cables on engine overhaul frequency so in the cables are older that the engine it is time to install new one. The Three cables will cost about $1000. (I think yout mechanic will tell you that McFarlane is preferred over the cheaper ACS. I note that Aircraft Spruce is now offering McFarlane. When I replaced all mine last year Spruce was featuring ACS. My plane had ACS that were over 15 years old... there was slop in the prop cable and the mixture cable was extremely stiff when cold.) http://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/Content.aspx?ID=6554170&Article=11
