  2. Ignoring Bonal's feeble..., our minimum altitude coming into KMRN has us almost 8000' AGL until about 15 miles from the airport. (Several peaks near 7000'.) My first '66E did not have speed brakes, love 'em, so I've tried fast, I've tried slowing to gear speed, I've done 720s or more over the fields, need a drag chute.
  3. Truth be told, I'm always on an IFR flight plan and descent is a negotiation with ATC. Almost always it begins with: "Atlanta Center, Mooney 943RW requesting lower."
  4. LASAR should have what you need. Not at Don's price but reasonable.
  5. I have one. And it is programmed. But really? Do you guys use a calculator to figure a 20% tip as my 91 year old mother-in-law does? You're cruising @ 2.5 km per minute. You'll descend at 3. Subtract pattern altitude from cruise altitude. If you're targeting 500 fpm you'll need 2 minutes per 1000' delta altitude. So, I need to lose 8000'. That's 16 minutes. Add 1 or 2 minutes to slow down at pattern altitude. So 18 minutes x 3 = 54 nm out.
  6. As many of you know our very own "Amelia" is a wonderful story teller with plenty of flying tales worth telling. http://generalaviationnews.com/2016/03/27/still-flying-the-backcountry-at-81/
  7. I like he 3/16" solar gray I installed a few months ago all around. Really like the extra vent window in the door! Cross ventilation and access to the outside door handle in an emergency.
  8. There plenty of info on redoing interiors here too.
  9. Or, if all else fails, call DMax or any other MSC.
  10. That handle is on the baggage door of my '66E. But the latch closes tightly against the door and it is obvious if it is unlatched.
  11. Mission accomplished.
  12. I don't think I can reach it in my tiny, 2 passenger, Super 21 without kicking my co-pilot! I'll have to try.
  13. See you there, D.V., Jolie and Jan!
  14. I gotta give Yetti credit for his clever paronomasia.
  15. Where are you? What's your problem? There's a lot of electrical expertise here. Not me, but I know guys...
  16. Hank's is a '70C. Apparently between 1966 & 1970 Mooney changed Vno and Vne. Someone here will remember how that was justified. Smooth vs. ribbed elevators, ailerons? Mine are smooth. I'm hazy about the detains.
  17. Hank, your Vno speed might be 175 mph though I suspect that's a typo. for my '66E the yellow arc is 130 kts (Vno) -164 kts (Vne) or 150-189 mph. I routinely cruise in the yellow and descend at the red line.
  18. I very intentionally latch the baggage door whenever it is closed. And that certainly includes the few minutes between getting the fuel sampler off the hat rack shelf and returning it there. The same process applies to the oil access door. A disruption in our pre-flight routine can very easily result in the OPs event or a gear up landing or taking off with the pitot cover on or... As I drive to the airport I go into "go slow" mode. Especially if I'm running late!
  19. Your '70C does not have a "hook" in the middle of the top of the door? (Unlike a Cherokee, there is only one handle that operates both mechanisms. Well, two if you count inside and outside. Cyril, you're probably right, I'll confirm that my '66E is the same.
  20. I am not positive that the outside handle locks the top hook. The only time I had the door pop open happened after my A&P had climbed out after checking on something with the engine running. He closed the outside handle tight. I taxied out and took off without checking the inside handle. I was at 5000' when I noticed air noise. When I touched the handle the door popped out into trail. With my new vent in the door I can probably verify w/o a helper.
  21. How do they close at the top after you fit them over the rudder pedals?
  22. What an ego! You think you're the only Hector in the Mooney world? http://aerocomfort.com/contact/
  23. You'll note that several of us older, wiser types are trying to do an intervention here... shape up, be a man, get your priorities straight... you can do it, it will be okay.
  24. Hector will sell you a nice leather one for about $50. http://aerocomfort.com/mooney/
