  1. Bendix King KSN-770.... http://www.bendixking.com/Products/Displays/Multi-Function-Displays/KSN-770
  2. Looking closer, it looks like there might be a blanket or floor mat draped across the left rear quarter panel of the car giving the appearance of metal damage...
  3. That is a beautiful machine you have there. Welcome to the boards and to the Mooney family!
  4. I found an updated article that says the owner is a doctor who lives in Florida, but had traveled to Austin for a medical conference. He was apparently en route to visit a friend in Atlanta. No info on a tail number, but couldn't be happier than everyone walked away healthy.
  5. I'm based about 40 miles from there and I have the lonestar paint job if you guys are interested. I'll have to check my calendar, but I might be able to come.
  6. What was the damage on the older style lights? -JLG
  7. Awesome! So glad it worked out for you. -JLG
  8. Not sure if you're interested or not, but I was able to obtain my LED Beacon and Landing light through Wilco even when the "big distributors" were on backorder. I worked with Mike Smith ( m.smith@wilco.to ) and he handled things perfectly, including responding to my initial email within 30 minutes. The full contact information below was provided to me directly from Whelen after I contacted them looking for a supplier with stock available. Wilco 3502 West Harry Wichita, KS 67213 Tel: 316-943-9379 Toll-Free: 800-767-7593 Fax: 316-943-9664 www.wilcoaircraftparts.com Sales@wilco.to Good luck! -JLG
  9. Let me see if I can find the shop that I ordered my Whelen from. They had abundant stock of the strobes and the landing lights when everyone else was on backorder.
  10. He didn't mention pressurization and my assumption that he knew he needed lower for that reason isn't necessarily a good one.
  11. Not sure if you ever stopped by, but I had another great experience with McKee Avionics. They did my panel update about 18 months ago and I recently started having some Mode-C issues and Comm 2 was practically unusable. I dropped the plane off with them and they had it back up and running in no time. Total charge: $0.00.
  12. Hypoxia is a real thing and it does bad things to your judgement. You can hear the urgency in his voice when he originally requests lower, but the subsequent calls get significantly worse. I did find it interesting that he requested "180" which is still WAY too high if you're having pressurization issues.
  13. FWIW, a buddy of mine recently borrowed my "C" model and flew it with two friends who are also pilots. Although the legroom in the back of a "C" model looks absolutely awful when the seats are all the way back, there is a fair bit of room once you're situated. That said there is significantly more leg room in the mid and long-body aircraft. The interesting part is that the guys flying in the back seat were shocked at the amount of shoulder and headroom when compared to the PA-28 / C172 back seat.
  14. Good job flying the plane! Glad to hear you landed safely.
  15. Mooney announced that they'd acquired, possibly commissioned might be a better word, 3 Redbird FMX units. The sims are said to feature a fully enclosed cockpit and full Mooney branding. They expect to use the simulators as sales and training tools. I've never "flown" one of the full motion Redbird units, but I'd like to give this one a shot. http://www.mooney.com/news/mooney-announces-partnership-redbird-flight-simulator/
  16. Make sure you're not on the brakes at landing. I know in my "C" model, the rudder pedals are pretty low and it's easy to be on the brakes when you don't mean to be. I added a "T" to the end of my GUMPS for "toes" on the rudder pedals...
  17. I have a buddy that installed one in his PA28. Nice product indeed, and definitely more robust that what was their previously.
  18. It would be nice indeed. Unfortunately, the placement of this screwdriver meant that you couldn't see it any other way than looking into the clow air inlet next to the spinner. I found it doing my normal "hand inspection" of the belt on the front of the engine.
  19. Back in the "rental days" I was performing my standard pre-flight on the 'ol PA-28 and found that someone had dropped an 8 inch phillips screw driver in the front of the cowling. It landed with the tip wedged in the alternator pulley. I'm pretty sure it would have been pretty exciting had I started the engine with that screwdriver in there.
  20. I had a Tibetan co-worker several years ago and I remember him telling me that when he moved to Beijing, to attend college, he joined an intramural soccer (football) team and that he was able to run for hours and hours on end without ever getting winded. After a few months of living in Beijing he gradually lost this super-human ability. The altitude of his hometown sits at around 11,000 feet above MSL, Beijing is about 150 feet above MSL however.
