  1. Any idea if that will fit a '67C model?
  2. I would really like to attend some of those seminars but have trouble traveling to downtown Austin (and back) on a Wednesday evening...
  3. Sobering reality of multiple bad decisions. I would like to think that I have enough respect for IMC that if I were to some how tragically end up in the clouds prior to completing my instrument training (or ending up disoriented after getting my instrument ticket) that at the very least I would climb, confess, communicate, and comply with ATC instructions. Stay smart, stay safe...
  4. First flight with my new Halo headset this morning. One word: Amazing. I cannot imagine ever going back to a traditional headset. I was so impressed that I loaned it to two of my buddies that were flying from Temple to San Antonio and back this morning. Both are lightspeed owners and both are going to order a halo in the next week or so. The ability to wear a hat this morning in the cold weather was a major plus as well. For me, overall the noise attenuation is better that each passive and anr traditional headset that I've tried. It took two or three minutes to get used to the ear plugs, but after that I didn't even realize I was wearing a headset at all. Radio transmissions from other planes and ATC were crystal clear and effortless to understand. Granted, I normally fly with a Dave Clark 13.4, but at least once or twice a flight I have to ask ATC to repeat themselves or if another pilot is with me, I ask them if they understood. I don't think I'll have that problem due to cockpit noise.
  5. As expected Halo headset arrived today. Flying around 7 AM tomorrow with a PIREP to follow shortly thereafter.
  6. I estimate that my new Halo headset should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to trying it out on Friday!
  7. First flight for my wife (in the Mooney) and she insisted on shutting the door since it was OUR plane.... She'd only flown in a rental pa28 prior to the purchase of 38M. Long story short, she shut part of her sweater in the door. Door pops open at 500 AGL just as I turn cross-wind. She's slightly panicked, but is reassured by the fact that I'm not. Climbed up to about 3k feet AGL, slowed down to VFE and opened the vent window. That having been done, she was able to shut the door without issue. A year later, she still requests that I shut the door.
  8. I too read this article over the weekend, scary stuff for sure. The part the bothers me the most is the quote below... "Fleming waited outside the courtroom Aug. 21 as his case went before the judge. When his attorney returned and said the case would be dismissed if he agreed not to take any legal action against Darlington County law enforcement, he said, he reluctantly agreed." Now that's a load a crap... I am not a litigious person, but hearing these types of things coming out of court rooms truly bothers me.
  9. Landed at a higher elevation airport on a fairly cool day and didn't get my carb heat turned off all the way before we departed that afternoon. The plane was making power but it didn't feel right even given the density altitude. There were no other planes in the pattern but one holding short to take off after me. 50 feet AGL I radioed that I was returning for an immediate landing. About 200' AGL I caught a thermal that gave me some cushion but the plane still wasn't climbing to my satisfaction. Landed uneventfully, taxied back to the ramp and checked everything over. Noticed the carb heat was on... Performance was much more in line with what I was expecting the second time around. I now check the carb heat before every take off...
  10. Loosely aviation related, but thought some of you might enjoy it....

  11. I pulled the trigger on a Halo headset this morning... One of my buddies picked up a lightspeed Sierra last week and dropped it by for me to try out. If the noise reduction with the halo is anywhere near as good as the lightspeed I will be elated. If the Halo doesn't impress me, I'll likely order the Bose A20 since it also has a no obligation trial period, and they will even bill you in 12 installments, with no interest. If I don't like the Halo or the Bose, I'll trade in my wife's Dave Clark 13.4 for a lightspeed. I'll keep you guys posted! For what it's worth, I hope I love the Halo. The comfort level, especially in the hot Texas summer, would be a major bonus.
  12. Congrats! As someone that is currently in the first quarter of that training, in envy you.... :-)
  13. I think the price for that was in the PDF that I posted. You'd just need to back out the ~1700 for removal and installation.
  14. I'd also say that they are great to work with. When I pulled up to the avionics shop to have my panel refurbished, my door handle strap broke. I emailed Hector at Aero Comfort and he threw in two new leather door straps when he shipped my yokes back. Granted it is a low cost item, but I would have gladly paid for them. Yokes before and after below.
  15. I've attached their Mooney Interior price list (they sent it to me when they recovered my yokes.) As well as a picture of some seats that they have done (not mine..) You should also check out http://www.aerocomfort.com/index/mooney/ I think a glareshield rebuild in ultra-leather is about $320. -JLG PriceList (3-8-12) (1).pdf
  16. +1 on Aero Comfort. Give them a call and you will not be disappointed.
  17. I emailed the company about them this morning, but haven't heard back. Not surprised given the proximity to holidays.
  18. Did anything ever come of this? I would like to change out my rotary vents out and replace them with wemac / eyeball vents that can actually be aimed (squarely at my face in the hot Texas summers.)
  19. That's what I've been contemplating...
  20. Can anyone tell me if the sample sound clips on their website are realistic. I've been considering the purchase of a Halo for about a month, but don't know anyone (personally) that owns a set. If this headset is truly a quiet and clear as those sound files, I'll order a pair tonight.
  21. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll email you the POH data for a 67 C model.
  22. Two more pictures. I'll have to go back at night so you can appreciate the effectiveness of the instrument ring lights...
  23. First picture of the new panel. I'll post more pictures later with everything on.
