Brett, in most states excluding only a few such as FL, TX. whatever debt a spouse incurs automattically transferes to the other and is equally enforceable.

Quote: allsmiles Hey Patrick! Do you really feel an LLC offers real protection? I have the airplane in an LLC also but sometimes I wonder. What's there to stop them from coming after us personally? And we are exposed because there is no umbrella policy available for aviation.

I am not an attorney nor do I know much about plane insurance. I do know however that to protect your assets and income. One should consider registering your aircraft to a sheltered position. Such as a LLC. This is the first thing I did before even taking possession of my plane to protect my family from an unforeseen event that may or may not be deemed my fault. It’s a low cost insurance policy that may save your butt. I’d be happy to hear what an experienced attorney may recommend.

Quote: astelmaszek You mean like the switches in my Bravo aka $9.99 cents available from anywhere on the planet or $250.00 from Mooney Company. It's a an effing switch...Yes, I'm sure my Honeywell switch is current limiting, protects me from witches, etc. Yes, I have the part numbers, 15 from Honeywell or 250 from Mooney Company. Same with the voltage regulators....

These are beautiful. But the price makes me think that they are cheap in quality.

Quote: Bnicolette Changed my insurance broker today to Falcon for this years coverage. They were able to get me an incredible rate and Cliff was outstanding to work with. I increased my hull this year and am actually paying less than last year. I highly recommend them.

This is my home base so if you don't need fuel don't buy it. It is extremely expensive. I have arranged free parking in front of the terminal.

If u still need a ride please let me know. I dont ask for anything other than lunch and a nice conversation. I'd be more than happy to take you. I have to go there for rigging and maybe an oil change.

My advice would be to take it to a shop that has never seen the plane before. make sure you can get an unbiased opinion and if its within your budget get an annual done to it. you will know a lot more about the condition of a plane with an annual rather than just a few hrs of time For a pre-buy. You can usually negotiate this as part of the deal anyways. As far as a shop goes Don Maxwell in TX may have the best reputation in the business but that’s a long haul from California. Lasar in CA also has a good reputation. One of my lessons learned in buying a plane and i cant stress this enough is to get a avionics pre-buy as well. you never know what someone may find and avionics are not cheap.

Quote: Jasper180 I am currently wrestling with this decision. Buying a M20J on my own or a three person partnership in a G2 SR22; I know they are not the same aircraft. I can afford the solo ownership of the J I have already picked out but reasonable estimate of 80 - 100 hours a year makes the hourly cost higher then a third of a plane that flies 225 hours per year. Most of my flying is mid week for work but my daughter and I enjoy the weekend $100 dollar breakfest also. I am leaning towards sole ownership in a J as that is the aircraft I have always wanted. The more I learn about the SR22 and haven flown one the more I don't like the plane. Of course if I pull the trigger on the Mooney I will anounce it hear with pictures. Erik

Mitch, i realized that may happen after i typed it. -

I will never buy a bladder. I am a huge Weep No More Fan after what paul beck did to my plane recently. so thankfully i will not have to see that bill. -

Quote: txbyker I seem to be developing a radio static issue. I have a Garmin GNS650 as #1 and KX-155 as #2. I notice that the static is most prominant on distant radio transmissions. Ex. Control tower in pattern is pretty clear but as I go along my route and get handed off to other controllers the farther I am the more static I hear. I have to really pay attention. I asked ATC about how they hear me and they say loud and clear. Both radios have the same issue. Cockpit intercom and crew to passengers sound fine, its just distant incoming radios from what I can tell. Has anyone had issues like this. BTW, I had a new alternator put on last week and it helped somewhat. I had this same problem you did about a month ago. Drove me nuts. I had an audio panel installed a few months back and they used these really cheap plastic connectors. 1 or 2 of the wires came loose and created static from what I thought was distant radios. I don’t know why that happened the way it did but bottom line is that it was cheap connectors that connected the radios to the audio panel.

Quote: Parker_Woodruff Yup...you need to do what we discussed by email...(after your paint, of course.) I just try to buy my planes at manufacturer spec (read: Send it to preferred MSC at purchase). Then fly the wings off it for a couple months. Handle squawks as necessary and fly happy. So far I've had a 7200 hour airframe (M20J) that never left me stranded. I put almost 200 hours/year on it. Now I own a 1500 hour airframe (M20K) that has been an absolute joy. I've witnessed 2 planes sell that I wouldn't touch because the owners refused to make them Mooney spec prior to purchase. They are each eating their respective owners alive. For me, I think the plane needs to be flown at least once a week. -
Quote: Mitch Hi Patrick. Take a look at CE-11-47R1. Reading the SAIB may give you some relief at this point. Goodyear is certainly aware and appears to be attempting to make an effort of investigation and some positive action. As I stated previously, I have not had an issue with the tubes. Possibly, others, besides the one report above, can chime in if they have had a problem with the tubes.

Is there someone that can please help me. I am getting very frustrated with this AC. As soon as I received it I sent a Goodyear mgr. an e-mail about this, along with a copy of receipt to show what I have. They told me to contact the FAA without even telling me anything more. The bulletin clearly states to contact Goodyear. Goodyear’s customer service sucks! I am not an A&P can someone please tell me if this applies to what I have and if so what I have to do since Goodyear is not taking any responsibility. I have: 06-05300-1 G/Y FLT MT BT TUBE G15/6.00-6 This was taken off my receipt from aircraft spruce. purchase date: 11/28/11 I would appreciate any help.

Mike, This is a known problem with the customIII on the nose wheel. There are actually a few articles about it online. I have customIII on the mains and flight special II goodyear on the nose for this same problem.

I need to go to tx. My home airport is over$7 gallon for av gas.

I have nothing but good things to say about the customs people at kbtv. I was in and out in no more than 3 mins. the guy came out with his dog and walked around the plane and said good night. Did not give him anything or get out of the plane. Best Experience I had crossing borders. Try KFXE. They tried to convince me I was radioactive or had a nuclear device. True story.

Quote: GeorgePerry Byron your absolutely right and you'll have 2 additional seats...However you can't build a 77 M20J with your son, it won't have a modern panel, it can't get 25 smpg, and the J is 35 years old. Also as the builder of a kit you save on annual and maint costs as you can do those yourself. I understand there are Pro's and cons to both (certified and Exp). Dont' get me wrong I "still" love Mooneys and I'm going to have another one real soon (J or Missile) to move the family around in. I want to build the lightning as a father / son project and to teach him to fly in. Also when I don't need all 4 seats, I'll take the lightning and save gas.

Quote: kortopates I've been a Stormscope and satellite weather user ever since Satellite wx has been available. I've found it so helpful I wouldn't want to fly a long x-ctry's with possible weather without it. I also still love my spherics device for the additional advantages and capabilities it provides over and above satellite wx. First of all, the lightning strikes that XM provides are almost worthless because they only show air-to-ground strikes characteristic of a mature t-cell. By the time ground strikes appear, you should also see precipt on the nexrad. My WX-500 is modern spheric sensor that is connected to MFD GMX200 (& GNS430's) - so its displaying strikes on my primary map display along with my satellite wx for improved situational awareness. But its real advantages are three fold. Firstly it's real time as opposed to your satellite wx and secondly shows cloud-to-cloud strikes which begin to occur as the t-cell is building and well before you'll see any signs of precipt. Thirdly spherics devices in strike mode can also indicate a false positive from very strong turbulence in building cu. Although a false positive, its still pointing to a condition very worth avoiding. Fourthly, its all I have when flying out of range of satellite nexrad which is always the case when I am enjoying my Mooney on an international adventure. Although Canada is an exception, Nexrad is still very limited; especially in western Canada and non-existent in Mexico, Bahamas’ and Caribbean. So I would never toss mine out and as mentioned it doesn’t take up any extra panel space either. I am doubtful I’ll be giving up XM for ADS-B weather anytime soon just because XM provides so many more useful products – plus I am hooked on having XM radio for those x-ctry’s t You are right on about the radio. We totally skipped the radio aspect of XM. It’s hard to be without that. I have Bluetooth connectivity in my plane streamed to my ipad but I really do prefer the XM radio for the wide variety. Hard to live without.
