I paid $325 for a mode S transponder IFR Ck. its a little cheaper for a mode C

It’s a habit now. But I must admit one time I was really tired and I forgot to put the gear down and thank god for the buzzer. I have on a few occasions forgotten to put the gear up on takeoff and then I see that I cannot climb and then the gear goes up. I rather deal with the later...

Avidyne IFD540 or Garmin GTN 650/750 Series?

Past Experiences with Dugosh Aircraft in Kerrville
pjsny78 replied to FlyWalt's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
My one and so far only experience with them has been for the most part pretty positive. They did what I asked. they worked on my plane during the mapa convention so they were extremly busy but did find some time to fit me in. I also called them over to help troubleshoot a problem once over the phone and they were more than happy to help me. The only negatives I can say is that I wanted to buy a part from them and kept getting a run around for a few months and finally gave up and got it from someone else. And they don’t take credit cards. But for the most part i was happy. -

If you are going to be spending this kind of money why not consider the G500 you can buy that loaded with SVT and all the options installed for under 20k. I rather have that then a GTN or avidyne. -

Where to get Fuel leaks fixed on the West Coast
pjsny78 replied to Jeev's topic in General Mooney Talk
I just spoke to the people at artcraft and informed them of my fuel leaks. They basically blew me off saying that no one else has said anything and stripper will not cause any problems with the fuel tanks. I'm not going to comment on what I think about that argument but I'm sure you guys feel the same. They did say they will call me back but lets face it, How many times has this shopped called us back. -
I just went to don maxwells last week to get this SB checkout out. He informed me both on my log book entry and verbally that this is a SB now but in a few days will be issued as a AD for all mooney models. This was last week so if it is not a AD now it will be very soon.

Quote: M016576 I've been trying to dispell the myth that a "turbo is a must" in the rockies on this board for a while... and here it is again! I don't know why Mooney pilots seem to think that you need a turbo any time you get west of the mississippi... anyway, here I go again: I learned to fly in a C172 (NA) at an airfield with a field elevation of 5000MSL in the heart of a valley in the rockies. lots of NA aircraft fly out of there... and fly north into the sawtooths north of stanley, ID. Many are much smaller aircraft than a mooney, and they do just fine. I fly my M20J in the rockies and sierras and everything inbetween on a regular basis, and I've never had to cancel a flight due to the lack of a turbocharger. In fact, I've never said to myself "self... sure would be nice to have a turbo charger right now!" I find that the fields that I have visited (and that most mooney pilots would visit.. with the exception of Piperpainter (he's crazy!)... are not only paved, but more than long enough to accomodate a NA mooney on a high DA day). I make fairly regular trips to mammoth in the summer time, and that DA can climb above 10000msl. Flying in the rockies isn't about having a turbo or not having a turbo... It's about mountain flying, and knowing how to plan and fly in that environment. Just like anything else in aviation, it's a matter of training and proficiency.. OK, I'm off my soap box now... Oh, and for Eric- I have a N.A. M20J... because N.A. M20J's are better (oh, and I can't afford a turbo!!! hah!)

Factory Gauge vs Engine Monitor RPM Differences
pjsny78 replied to schule's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
my mechanical RPM Guage was bench tested recently to be within 25rpm. -
I have a lot of time flying in the east in my "J" model. I can honestly say I have never had the need for one. The Appalachians for the most part are like hills. As far as weather goes. My celling is close to FL190. It may take me a while to get up there but again I have never had the need. I just made a cross country trip over the Rockies and had to deal with airports in excess of 6k ft. I think a turbo out there is a must. Again I never have needed or thought of one on the east coast. Plus you have the added cost of maintenance.

Where to get Fuel leaks fixed on the West Coast
pjsny78 replied to Jeev's topic in General Mooney Talk
I took my plane to Paul beck at weep no more right before my paint job at ArtCraft to go over all the inspection panels. My plane just came out of the shop a few days ago and I have leaks now as well. Good luck trying to get someone at ArtCraft to help you. I have been trying to get a touchup kit mailed to me and for them to paint 2 parts 1 of them that they broke and did not tell me anything about nor did they bother to just fix it. So far I have gotten no response. I can go on and on about my experience with them. -
Thank you for all of your help. I wound up calling comant and they said it would be around $600 for them to repaint the antennas when a new set is $1k. I think I will just leave them alone. Thank you guys so much.

Does anyone know of the manufacturer who makes the blade style antennas on the tails of Mooneys? I cannot see a name on the antenna. The reason I am asking is that the paint is chipping off and the paint shop refused to paint them. So I’d like to call and see what can be done or if anyone has successfully painted yours I would like to hear about that as well. As always I really appreciate any information.
