  1. Would anyone know of what the part number is for the wheat bulbs in this particular clock are? I have called many people and MSC'S to get this information to no avail. I have e-mailed the Mooney factory countless times and never heard back. If anyone would happen to know please let me know as I would really appreciate it.
  2. My engine was converted from the IO-360 A3B6D TO the IO-360 A3B6 with a Lycoming exchange. The cost with shipping was under $28k it came with roller tappets and the 2 independent mags. This was in 2009 however. I would recommend this option if it’s within your budget and you can have it shipped and worked on to whatever shop you chose. The only problems in 500hrs. So far I have had is: I replaced the starter and replaced all the seals with silicone gaskets due to seepage.
  3. I agree with with jetdriven.
  4. I’m not a mechanic but I just had my mechanical Tach checked just a few days ago and it was only off by 25rpm. The technician said it’s very good to be off by that much. I’m not sure if this helps you at all but just wanted to give you an idea.
  5. thank you everyone for all the recomendations. i really do appreciate it and will be taking your advice. thanks again.
  6. I have a problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have a 95 Mooney M20J MSE. My question has to do with the stock clock on the left side of the panel. When I bought this plane it has never lit up. It is virtually useless at night to me and I do a lot of night flying. I like the clock and want to keep it but I need it to light up. Does anyone know if there are light bulbs inside of the unit? My avionics guy says it would be a waste of money to pull it out, check to see if the unit is lighted, if it is lighted to then order the bulb, and then redo the process if they can get the bulb. Does anyone have any information on this? I would really appreciate it. i hope you can make out the clock in the picture.
  7. For what its worth - it takes a grain of salt to condemn or criticize especially when you have a bad outcome (service, cost, time etc) but it takes a huge PR drive to reverse the effects of a few critical remarks. The recent threads about Cole Aviation is just not fair to someone who devotes his entire life trying to help the few of us Mooney owners in the Southeast. I doubt there is any one MSC that has not had one complaint from an unhappy customer. Please don't use this forum as a Topix posting. If you do, I will leave as well as many others who don't appreciate cheap trashing bantering. Rocketman, I have been trying to stay away from this topic but thought I should post this. I understand that the mechanic you referenced has a loyal following. I can only speak of my experience. There were glaring issues that if the mechanic followed the Mooney service checklist at annual would have and should have been corrected. Instead they were not and could have ended with an accident on 1 issue and another if under IMC conditions could have as well. I have gotten beat up by some in the past for this, but the fact is that mooneyspace is the best place on the web where Mooney owners can get information on everything Mooney. If I had read of the comments on here before I got an annual I would have made a different decision. As you can see in this post and the one before it was deleted, was there is a mix of experiences with different shops. It’s up to the reader to make a decision and you have the opportunity like others have, to express good experiences. To be fair. In the last few months I have used the following service centers: Dugosh: Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I wish I was closer to have my plane serviced more. Henry Weber Aircraft: Very Knowledgeable and efficient staff. Had me in and out. I think I found a home in these guys. Air-Mods: very good the only problem I have with them is not even, in their control and is very minor. They have to charge out of state customer’s sales tax. Other than that they have been great and always have made themselves available. Really good people and do good work. Air East: well let’s just say I like the others better even though they are located on my home base.
  8. did you put yourself on the map pjsny? I’m getting frustrated with this Google map. I cannot figure out how to add my name and airport. I think i added my airport 2x (FRG) but cant find a way to put my name with it.
  9. This would be a great asset. If anyone is in the NY area or traveling to, and would like to chat or meet. I would welcome it.
  10. The one that hits you is the one you didn't see. How did they certify a light system that melts the lenses and causes 300$ in damage if left on after landing? Jetdriven, You may have misunderstood. The $300 figure was just to replace the bulb. My lenses are kind of melting but I attribute that to the strobes, and the only one of those I had to replace so far was more than $700. Light bulbs are too damn expensive.
  11. I found out how much it was to replace a single bulb and stopped using them as much. I paid somewhere around $300 to replace one of the bulbs on the wing.
  12. Thank you for all of the recommedations. i really do appreciate it.
  13. some transducers have a programable k-factor setting. i have a J model and this is the case with myne. im not sure if this helps.
  14. This is where a good Pre-Purchase inspection comes into play. Nice plane from description and pictures. Interior and radios look original.
  15. This is my first winter season with my Mooney. I am trying to get feedback on the best way to remove frost from the wings. I have been using a snow brush but I don’t think that is the best method of doing the job. Someone told me to use car windshield washer fluid with a low freezing point. This sounds good but I’m worried that the liquid will get into the speed brake opening and cause corrosion or other problems or could even eat away at the paint. I know the logical cure and most of you will say is to get a hanger. Unfortunately my airport has a 3 yr waiting period and a $900 a month fee. My tie down is close to $200 a month and I am forced to keep it outside. I live in NY so prices are a bit crazy. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I would appreciate seeing a picture if you can post one. I looked to see if there was any velcro holding the reclining seat in place and could not find any. I am going to look for that pin at the outside corner of the seat and see if I can put my hands on it. Any photos or illustrations you can post would be appreciated. Thank you.
  17. I have had ACF 50 applied to my plane and 6 months later I am still seeing it ooze out. I guess its good stuff but again I have nothing to compare it to as this is the first time I have applied it. It also kind of sucks because I now want to get the plane painted and I don’t know if the paint will adhere properly. The paint shop tells me it will not be an issue but I’m still a bit nervous about it.
  18. this is a copy off my bill of what was done and the price. im sure you may be able to get it a bit chaeper if you shop around. i live in NY so the prices are ultimattly a little higher. i was told that it was just loose in the wing somehow and had to be realigned and secured. i think that part of the job requires them to do a compass swing and compass card afterwards. swing HSr and compass systems- Performed HSr swing raw aendix/King Kcs55A'installation manual p/n 006-001-11-001-1, rev 11, dated npril 2007. Performed compass swing rAW Ac43.l-3-18 section 3, paragraph LZ-37. tnstalled updated vertical compass cornection card. Labor: $ 375.00
  19. My original post was deleted because of this e-mail I received from the administrator of the site. I thought this site was intended to get feedback from others and learn a thing or 2 in the process. Apparently some people did not like it and ultimately it was removed. I would not be surprised if this post gets deleted. Maybe like the previous person claimed the title was a bit harsh. Ok maybe, I could have cleaned it up a bit but I wanted to get the point across. I had a couple emails from some users that did not think we should have posts like that on Mooneyspace since there is no way to verify the event in question. I just did it to try and be fair. I don’t really have time to police the thing – from my end it was easier to delete it.
  20. I have received a few pm’s but I won’t realize it for hours or a day later. I am a new user and if I am wrong I apologize. It seems like you only know if you received a PM is by going to the forums page. Why can’t you get a notification of some sought that will alert you that you have a Pm. I think this would be extremely helpful.
  21. I don’t know if this helps at all, but I purchased the Skytec 149NL/EC about 2 months ago as a replacement for a Kelly starter. I am not that mechanically inclined but it is such a difference. The Kelly one would take a few cycles to start at times and sound terrible. The new one starts the first time every time and has a much different sound to it. I think it is a huge upgrade and I am very happy with it.
  22. Cruiser, I just had to get mine realigned because my HSI was off. I know it’s in the wing and I believe it’s the left one. If no one answers your post tonight I can call and find out for you in the morning and let you know.
  23. thank you i appreciate it.
  24. Thank you 201er, i joined the group you mentioned, but it may be that i dont know how to navigate the website but i cannot see where meetings are taking place or really anything other than a conversation.
  25. I just want to see if there would be any interest in getting a bunch of mooney owners together for lunch one day at a centrally located location in the north east. I haven't seen anything where mooney owners can get together and talk mooney. I'm new to mononey's and plane ownership but I have been to MAPA's fly in In kerrville. It was great and met alot of fantastic people. Again I just want to see if there would be any interest as i know I'd love to meet alot of you.
