  1. Thanks Jetdriven, but myne goes out compleatly.
  2. Today was a great day. I got to meet some great people and I will never forget that. I am hoping we can do this again soon.
  3. When you have the nav lights on you will not get the green light on the annunciator panel. I do not know why this is but as soon as you turn them off you get the green light.
  4. I must have not made a clear post. One of my speed brakes went inop! The right deploys and the left doesnot. Any suggestions as to what I should possibly look at as to fixing the problem. I love the speed brakes and use them all the time. It's just one of the will not deploy. I am flying home tomorrow and will leave them stowed and just monitor my speed. But I am anal with regards of everything working properly on my plane and thought someone might have a suggestion as to a quick fix before I fly tomorrow. Thanks Overhaul may be due. i was looking in my log books and the previous owner had to get myne overhauled.
  5. I know VIP in Hartford, CT. Eric runs their maintenance department. I have been bringing my plane to him since I got it. His rate is $78hr no taxes and no airport fees. I THINK his annual is $2k but there is no area of the inspection he will miss and will go beyond what Mooney wants him to do. He will point out stuff to you that you were not expecting for you to be aware of. I can’t say enough about the place. The only negative is that they do not offer a shuttle service however they use a CFI with a lot of Mooney time for $100 will fly you home and take your plane back. I hope this helps.
  6. I use them from the moment i have to slow down to retract the gear all the way to landing. it seems to take some of the float out in ground effect. we all know given the chance mooneys will float down an entire runway. When I was shopping for my plane I did not think speed brakes would make any real difference on an aircraft that fly’s at 165knotts. It just happened that the plane I bought had them. I can honestly say it’s one of my favorite parts of the plane. They are great and can’t imagine not having them at this point. I am actually looking at buying a twin and was asking if there is way to get them installed on an aerostar. Bottom line is that you will appreciate them greatly if you start using them.
  7. I am by no means a Mooney expert but when I started looking at Mooney’s before I decided upon my “J” I noticed something about the entire “K” lineup that I thought was very interesting and chose not to buy that particular plane. When you look at controller and trade a plane I noticed hardly any of the planes made it to about 1k hrs. before needing an overhaul. Even previous owners of “k” models told me the same thing. I’m not sure why that is but the bravos seem to make it to TBO. I know I’m probably going to get some heat for this bit it’s just what I have noticed. Again I am not an expert on this area just an observation.
  8. In my M20J, I have a Garmin 530w and a shadin miniflow system. On startup the 530 tells me exactly what is in the tanks. It is extremely accurate. The only thing you may subtract is what you waste in straining the gascolator. I have found it as accurate as .3 gallons between top offs. I understand if you do not have this equipment it would be ridiculously expensive to justify. But I have found it very useful.
  9. im just kidding Bnicolette. you are a mooney owner so colors dont matter at least not this sunday unless we both advance.
  10. Steeler attire? really.
  11. Giants game in enemy territory (PA), this should be interesting. are you sure they are going to allow us to watch the game?
  12. This is an interesting post. I think I am the only one that has a certain procedure and I don’t have any reason for it other than I think it helps with cooling. I give the plane full power until I am at 1k ft. at that point I pull back the power to 2600rpm and 25mp. In my climb when I get below 25mp I increase it as much as I can till I get the max while maintaining 2600rpm which I use for cruise. I also start to lean the engine at 1kft. Again I think I am the only one that does this.
  13. as always i learn something new from jetdriven. thank you for that i was always under the impression everything had to work. thank you.
  14. this is pure speculation but unless your plane is equiped with a MEL everything has to work. i highly doubt any mooney has a MEL. this is what your mechanic may be referring to.
  15. for what its worth i just sent my AI to be overhauled and its all set for me to pick up and installed back in the plane. i owe $1,200 to the avionics shop in CT. they have a great reputation.
  16. i am having the same issue but thankfully its just for 1 or 2 of the cam locks. id like to hear some of the solutions as well.
  17. yep but at only a few hundred dollars its alot better than i was dreading.
  18. yes thats exactly what the mechanic did originally. it worked at first but when it gets cold it does the same thing.
  19. thanks again jim, you have been great. you dont need to look it up i just wanted an idea of what i am facing. mooneyspace is great.
  20. Thank you guys very much for your help. would you happen to know how much one of these switches cost and approx. what it would be for labor to install?
  21. I’m having a problem with my flaps and was hoping someone can help. I have a 95 M20J. When the weather gets cold out I am able to lower my flaps but I can’t get them to go back up. I brought it to a guy who was able to fix it one time. he removed the belly and cleaned the connection on something. He says that it happens sometimes in my model of Mooney, that some condensation freezes and the flaps think they are up when they are down if that makes any sense. I am sure as heck not doing this routine for every single flight I make in the cold. Does anyone have any recommendations?
  22. Unfortunately aircraft spruce seems to only sell one type of wheat bulb. I need the correct P/N or it could potentially burn out the plastic if it is not the right type as there are many differnet types of bulbs. If anyone knows of anything please let me know. I have been trying for months to find this P/N to no avail.
  23. Gary, I bought my J model back in June and was looking at the same things you were and ultimately decided to get my Mooney M20J MSE. I paid close to $160k but you can get one far less cheaper. I can go from NY-Miami in 6hrs and it’s something I have done a number of times. (It may take me an hour more on the way down due to winds.) I get a TAS of about 165knotts @6k ft. and have had ground speeds in excess of 200knotts. I burn around 13gph rich of peak. I know this in itself is going to cause a lot of debate on rich of peak vs. lean of peak. But I have been told to run ROP by some highly regarded Mooney people. I hope this helps.
  24. I am so sorry to hear this story. i just bought a M20J and now i am going to be replaying your situation in my head. i pay a small fourtune for my insurance premium i would hate to think about a big rate increase after a gear up. i am glad to hear that you are ok and no one was hurt. can i ask what airport this happened at?
