Depending on what alternator you have, Plane Power may have a legal replacement. If so it is about $100 cheaper than the zeftronics. It has a very stable output, mine never moves off 14.1

instrument cluster keeps tripping circuit breaker
N601RX replied to rbridges's topic in General Mooney Talk
Are the gauges the type that you can just remove one screw and unplug them? If so unplug all of them and see if it still pops the CB. If not then put only one at a time in and see if any particular one trips it. -
Here is a description of how it works. We used to have a lot of magnaform machines at work that we use to form aluminum cans over the armature of electric motors. They basically had a huge capacitor bank that was charged up to around 600 volts. All the energy was dumped into coils made of heavy copper bars that was positioned around the can. There was also a 1/2" thick scatter shield to contain the explosion that happened a couple of times a year when the bars shorted. http://www.electroimpact.com/EMAGDR/overview.asp

Here is a dent repair solution. Has anyone ever tried it, or seen it in action? http://www.fluxtronic.com/index.php

If I were in a similar situation I would contact Stacy myself and get his side of the story. I've talked with him before when I had problems and found him to be very reasonable and helpful. What is missing is what the inspector said or showed him to get him to make the statement that was made.

We don't know the pretext under which these questions were asked to Mooney, or what pictures were provided to them but a better answer might have been that they were unable to provide an opinion without inspecting the plane in person.
-
I would like to see pictures as well. If this is as it seems how many 50 year old planes don't have a few dents in them?
-
You will need to know if your leads have 5/8 or 3/4 ends on them also.

It looks like they have been increasing the price regularly every few months for the last 2 years.

From what I remember reading in the past they usually conduct a ramp check after they observe you operate the aircraft. Without seeing you operate the aircraft it would be very difficult to make any enforcement action stick.

I would not show up with the logbooks on short notice. There is nothing they can do to you for not agreeing to meet them on short notice, However if you do show up and they find something you have overlooked then there is plenty they can do. Tell them the best you can do is next week and take the time to make sure your stuff is in order. I would not admit to the last time I had flown the plane either, in the event something is found it is not illegal to own an unairworthy plane it is just illegal to fly it. I would copy the page showing it is in annual, but not give them the books to go poking around in. Then if they had additional questions about AD's ect I would provide copies of the entries for those.

It was a few months ago. It seems like it was a broken valve spring rubbing on the aluminum.

I worked at Globe for several years. Instead of calling the sales office in Ohio, call the Dothan,Al branch and asked for the FAA repair station and see if they will overhaul it for you. Send me a PM if you need a contact number.

There are some pictures I posted on the link below that shows the internals of the Gerdes/Cleveland master cylinders. These cylinders use a Stato-seal between the piston and shaft. The piston is spring loaded and slides back and fourth on the shaft. You must get the piston to back away from the Stato-Seal before you can get fluid to flow backwards through the system. Higher pressure will make this more difficult as it will keep it pressed up tightly against it. Try a low pressure and have someone work the pedels back and forth. This will unseat the seal and let oil flow in reverse through the system. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/4574-bleeding-brakes/page-2

I have a piece of plastic hose with fitting that I screw into the reservoir and run it down to the floor into a clean container.
-
Here is the $7 sprayer from Lowes that I used. It works well on the flaps also. I've found that you need a second person to work the pedals back and fourth. Bleeding is messy and not really all that much fun, so if you have any leaks or need hoses or seals replaced do all of it at once.

I've been on a comercial flight before where we were pushed back 20 ft from the gate and stopped. An armored truck backed up to the plane and the entire contents of the truck was put in the plane. When we landed there was a truck waiting.

I received this last night from chief. There should be jpi rebates in addition to this. http://chiefaircraftinc.com/1OM5-29YWG-6F9FP6Z580/cr.aspx

JPI usually has rebates. It looks like the one below just ended. They will very likely start a new one in a couple of weeks during the week of Sun In Fun. Most dealers will offer discounts on top of the rebates during the show. I got a 830 2 years ago at Oshkosh for $2600. That was a considerable savings over the best deal I could find the week before. http://sarasotaavionics.com/whats-new-in-avionics/jp-instruments-rebates

Jeff, I'm not sure what atmosphere your looking for, but North Captiva is only about a mile North of Sanibel. It has a runway and you can rent a house on the corner of the runway/beach, literally 20 ft from the runway. There is no bridges to the island, so its quieter and less congestion than some of the other places. There are a couple of places to eat as well as a small store. You can also rent a boat or jetski for the week. There is a ferry back to the mainland or you can use it as an excuse to fire up the plane. Most all the homes come with a golf cart and kayaks. The island has been left more natural and not commercialized like some. Its also a quick trip down to Key West for the day. We really enjoyed it. The prices there are very reasonable. http://www.mooneyspace.com/topic/10293-flew-the-mooney-into-north-captiva-island-for-a-long-weekend http://www.saltyapproach.com

I'm sure the insurance company would have something to say about that in the form of a lot of dual. The Aircam is an experimental and for many year you were not allowed to rent them. The EAA got that changed several years ago so that builders could rent a plane like they we're build and receive training in it before injuring themselves trying to learn to fly their own plane. If I remember correctly you can't rent one for your private, but other training is ok. I think I remember reading the aircam guy saying the operating cost was only about $35 hr. Here is the article. http://www.avweb.com/news/homeblts/182021-1.html?redirected=1

Does Sanibel have an airport? We went to North Captivia which is one island north of Sanibel last fall. We picked it because it had a loading strip. We had a very good time, it's only a short flight on down to Key West

Yes, there was a someone down in Florida offering a Multi Engine rating in them for around 1K. That was a few years ago and he was booked up. I'm not sure if he is still in business or not.

So how hard would it be for someone sitting back in the plane with a handheld VHF to convince a pilot to contact the next center on a different frequency? Once that happens how hard would it be to get him to turn off the transponder due to it causing an "ATC problem"? To descend or fly a different heading? It seem to me like once you got him off frequency, it could go on for a while, not that I think that is happening here.

I've found a few on other planes that have been cracked on preflight. If you look it over good each time chances are you will catch it before it comes apart.
