I’ll be there for the duration along with my significant other. The Mooney stays home but the RV makes the trip to Warbirds Camping. Stop by the Warbird area (Bombers and Transports) and say hi. We’ll try to get to the N40 shindig this year as we failed miserably last time around. No shortage of work to do in volunteer land during Air Venture.

GPS position jumping with GTX345+GTN650 and Foreflight+iPad
JC252MB replied to Markmp's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I use an I Pad Air 2. I’ve updated the IOS each and every time Apple has offered an update but not before receiving the “all clear” from Foreflight. I have not updated the GTX since the original install.- 40 replies

Sad day for Lancair Turbine Owners
JC252MB replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Sorry for your loss, Tom. Clearly, Mr. Cook had a positive effect on you that went beyond getting that Lancair squared up to fly and you ready to fly it. Those kind of opportunities are priceless aren’t they? Something truly to be thankful for as they just don’t happen often. I’m fairly certain that, knowing what I know about you and your level of outreach to others in the Northwoods, you are already someone’s “John Cook”. Carry that torch proudly, Sir. -
Another Awesome Aviation Sharing Opportunity

Count me in on the Young Eagles flights, Tom. My ship's in for annual right now but just say the word. Happy to help! -
What Got You Started In Aviation?

Incredibly Rewarding, yet Humbling Experience
JC252MB replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in General Mooney Talk
Tom is one of those great aviation ambassadors that we're so incredibly lucky to have up here in the Northwoods. Generous to a fault! What a great story, Tom. -
Once again, Mooneyspace comes through in a pinch. I've been looking for a trim chain cover for a long time and then, boom, here's a source! Same deal when I wanted to replace my crappy baffling. What a great resource we have here. Thank you!

I run straight weights exclusively in my 252. Right now I'm using 65 and will transition to 100 probably in April. I do run a strip of tape on the oil cooler and it does help get those oil temps up a bit in the winter. There's a Tanis on the airplane and I preheat anytime the temp is below 50 which in Northern Wisconsin is pretty often. Definitely a balancing act in my airplane between oil temperature and pressures that I have to manage pretty actively.

Yoopers Rocketman's Lancair

I saw Tom depart KIMT with the Lancair yesterday and was some kind of impressive! He also bought lunch which was priceless. A great guy flying a terrific stable of airplanes. -
Controller Error Led To Mid Air Collision
JC252MB replied to Piloto's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I did the ADSB in/out mod back in May of this year. My GTX 345 allows traffic to be displayed on the Garmin 530 but is limited to eight targets. I added an I Pad with ForeFlight in August and that greatly increased the participating traffic awareness. I wanted the 'in' capability largely for weather but the comfort of flight aspect (especially for my significant other) that enhanced traffic awareness brings to us has been great. It's not TCAS but it sure is better than nothing at all. -
$155 a month for our hangar at KAIG which includes electricity. Nice, new construction with an electric bifold door. Very pleased!

Tom, I'm thinking with the amount of time my M20K spends at Kubick, I should be considered a part time resident. Absolutely loving the WAAS, ADSB and roll steer mod that Jeff did before he left for FL. John

24 V Battery Minder for sale
JC252MB replied to mike_elliott's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Same story here. Just replaced my seven year old Gill with a Concorde. I have a 24 volt Battery Minder (24041-AA-S2) looking for a good home. $100 and you pay the postage to get it wherever you need it to be. -
Count me in! My significant other and I volunteer at Warbirds all week starting this Saturday and I'm sure that by Monday night we'll be ready from a break.

Great musicians play to great audiences and not demographics. We might never see them tour again but with some luck, maybe we get more new music some day soon.
-
Absolutely! Something this pretty couldn't possibly be a Dude. Ewww....

Our 252 is definitely a female and her name is Rocinante. Depending on your perspective, that name belongs to a Mooney, a broken down plow horse doubling as a brave charger in Don Quiote, a GMC pickup truck going cross country and back in "Travels with Charlie" by John Steinbeck or a ill fated spacecraft having a fatal encounter with a black hole in a Rush song. I love my airplane....

I just have a serious, fundamental problem with appropriated funds being spent to essentially prop up a program that has been paid for, up to this point, with appropriated funds. When does stuff like this end?
-
Glad you found your leak. John has been taking care of my Mooney for the last six years and it's been two since joining the good folks at Kubick. Just did my annual and avionics upgrade there. Great people with all the skill and integrity you could ever hope for. Yeah, John's found some leaks on my airplane over the years.

Well, I got back to the avionics shop today and I'm very happy to report a that ADS B traffic and weather are playing on my Garmin 530. Thanks to Deb for the tip. I had plenty of weather to look at today.
-
Just completed the ADS-B upgrade on my M20K. A 530W is the WAAS source and a Garmin 345 in/out transponder was added as well. I get traffic on the 530 but not WX. I'd like to use my 696 to display weather as I did previously with XM even if it is limited to NEXRAD. Is this possible and if so, how? Not really interested in the I-pad/Foreflight lash up up unless, of course, that's my only option. Thanks in advance!
