  1. It is worth the wait. Mine took about 7 weeks, including autopilot replacement. Weeks of waiting yields years of enjoyment.
  2. Perhaps you can get the old one "yellow tagged."
  3. This seems legit. Garmin lists Foreflight as supported software on its web site. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the-air/avionics-safety/sat-comm/flight-stream-110-210/prod153681.html
  4. Do you think he was influenced by the presence of the parachute?
  5. I you already use Foreflight, there is a good W&B app in the "More" tab.
  6. If it is of any help or interest to you, I have a yoke that was powder coated a few years ago that is in great condition with a good Mooney decal on it. I removed both of my old yokes this winter as part of a panel upgrade, and would send the old ones to a good home for any reasonable offer.
  7. This is what a 900 looks in place of the cluster gauges on a 1967 F.
  8. Bang for the buck...I'd look for a used GNS430W that has been removed for someone else's upgrade. My guess is 1/2 the expense. You will love being cleared Direct most of the time.
  9. Learn the throttle settings that you need for gear speed and final approach in your airplane. Depending on wind you may have to adjust 1" one way or the other but you will not have to hunt. It makes it easier to attend to the other elements of the approach, like lateral guidance. Also visualize the configuration that you will want the airplane to be in, in a few minutes. For example, in my F I know that 15" in level flight will slow me to about 110 - 115 a good speed to drop the gear. So I reduce to 15" about 2 miles prior to the FAF. Once the gear is down 13" - 15" will track the glideslope depending on the wind. If I am drifting a little high, reduce 1", a little low increase 1". This removes one variable at a time when your workload is high and will yield consistency.
  10. I think I would have let the tower know that I would enter a right base leg for 36.
  11. The Boom Beam is an HID but older technology than the LEDs. I was curious if the LEDs have surpassed its performance.
  12. Does anyone have a good sense of how these compare to LoPresti's Boom Beam?
  13. Exceeding aft CG, on purpose or inadvertently can be mortally dangerous. If you exceed forward CG, you may thump the nose gear on landing. Exceeding aft CG can lead to irrecoverable stall, and we all know what that can lead to. Please double check your numbers and if they do not make sense have the plane weighed. If you are like most of us with older airplanes, your maintenance logs may have almost 50 years of additions, subtractions, and even some long division. Remember a lot of this figuring would have been done before the widespread use of calculators. Please forgive me for sounding a little over the top on this, but what you have described can really be dangerous.
  14. Mike, See you at silverwings Thursday.
  15. This started as an autopilot installation that got out of hand.
  16. This is really well thought out and well executed.
  17. I just took an EDM700 w/FF out of my M20F to install an EDM900, as part of a panel upgrade. The 700 was working perfectly and is available if you need one.
  18. Very nice.
  19. I just put an Stec 55x in my '67F. It may be overkill but it does play nicely with the Garmin 430W. I have only put about 10 hours on it, but it is obvious that it flys better than I do.
  20. Waltham Aircraft Clock Corp. http://www.walthamclocks.com/repaired mine a few years ago. It still works fine. Also you can search eBay for 8 day aircraft clocks. There are plenty in the $275 range.
  21. All of the Brittain stuff has been sold. Thanks to all.
  22. I am in the process of replacing the Brittain autopilot in my 1967 F with an Stec 55X. Unfortunately I really do not like the way my current pilot's yoke has to be modified to accommodate all of the buttons that will be required. In the unlikely event that someone on this board has a couple of newer yokes, and also has a use for Brittain parts, I would like to swap. The Brittain items that I have available include EC100 Turn and Bank, AccuFliteII heading hold (DG is not included), Altitude Hold. All associated servos, switches and controllers have been removed from my plane and were working well when I flew the plane to the shop. Alternatively, if anyone would like to purchase the Brittain parts, or sell me yokes, let's talk.
  23. My personal experience is that when I am going through a period of bad landings (I'd like to think that we all do from time to time), is rather than just practicing landings is to climb to a safe altitude and practice slow-flight for a while. Put the plane in landing configuration and do turns and the rest of the slow-flight regime. It will restore your feel for the airplane. Don't forget to do clearing turns.
  24. 40#s of useful load is significant in our planes. A properly done strip and reseal will last a long time. To me it is an easy choice.
