  1. The block that the J bar locks into for gear-down (under the throttle) should be replaced every 20 years or so.
  2. My MG mechanic, back in the day, advised me not to think of it as a car, but as “an interesting mechanical device”
  3. In the 33 years that I have owned my ‘67F, the flaps have been trouble free. I had o-rings replaced once for a little seepage. Two pumps for take-off, two more for full-flaps to land. I have also had a similar, trouble free, experience with the step. Although when I had the plane at Britain many years ago for an altitude hold install, I believe they replaced the tape around the step-bellows.
  4. The seating position in the MG was much the same as in the Mooney.
  5. Thanks Mike. See you in April.
  6. When I was much younger, I had a great affinity for MGs, the little British sports cars that leaked in the rain. Now, more than 50 years later it's MGs again, only this time it's Mooney-Geezers. History does seem to repeat. How lucky we geezers are to be in a position to continue to enjoy our Mooneys.
  7. I believe you are correct. I also believe that the twist wing had the flush riveting extended further aft on the wing than the newer ones.
  8. I apologize for the drama, but I have decided to wait until Fall to sell my plane (67). I still have some flying I want to do this Summer.
  9. If you have found a nice plane close to you, my recommendation is to buy it, before someone else does. I won't feel bad.
  10. I sent mine to Waltham in AR, for repair, many years ago. It still works.
  11. Mike, Congratulations. This recognition is extremely well deserved.
  12. You should love this plane. I have had my 67F since 1984 and it still make me smile each time I fly it.
  13. I believe what you are experiencing is normal. In my "F" after I retract flaps on take-off it takes 10 forward swipes of the trim wheel to trim for climb out. This is not too surprising, given that I was probably trimmed for ~75 MPH (older airspeed indicator) to rotate. and am now trimming for a climb speed Vy of 113.
  14. I have had a JPI 900 in my F for a few years and like it a lot. I think it has added a few knots to my cruise speed. Seriously! My guess is that my old instruments were sufficiently innaccurate that I was flying at am lower power setting that I realized. On rare occasion my unit's scan function will freeze, but it is not enough of a problem to motivate me to remove the unit for a trip back to the factory for a software patch. I would purchase again.
  15. I plan on flying into KTPA, and driving to the airshow. This will be my first year doing the flight from NJ rather than Indy. Looking forward to the change of scenery, and seeing old friends.
  16. You can find the installation manual online. It will list all of the adjustable parameters. http://www.mstewart.net/Downloads/GTX330_IM.pdf
  17. Thanks.
  18. Thanks, Dave.
  19. I will see you at the airport.
  20. Mike, That's a great offer. See you in April.
  21. When I went 1966 there was only West.
  22. I am moving back to NJ to retire. I grew up in Cherry Hill, my wife is from Paterson, and my daughter lives in NYC. We will move to Point Pleasant Beach in December. I am looking to meet some MSers. It will be interesting to get used to the contested airspace as well. See you at the airport.
  23. I will be moving to NJ next month and basing my M20F at KBLM. I would appreciate any insights about about maintenance and avionics facilities that are either recommended for use or for avoidance. I try to do regular IPCs so a lead on a good CFII would also be helpful. Please feel free to PM me if that allows for increased candor. I would also welcome and information on good spots for $100 hamburgers etc. Thanks, Glenn
  24. My 1967 M20F has the Lasar 201 style windshield, flap-gap seals and cowl closure. I plan 145kts. At 8,000' WOT & 2500 I usually see 148-152kts TAS. 11gph (EGT around 1360). I have however gone higher for a good tailwind. http://www.groundspeedrecords.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=247&Itemid=2060
