struggle to get gear locked down on '68 M20C
Glenn replied to DXB's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I experienced this very thing when I put a new vinyl boot on the Johnson bar. Check that you do not have too much material forward of the bar when the gear is extended.- 38 replies

It is easy to have a music input installed on the panel or accessible to the back seat as well. Typically my wife and I would listen to XM Radio in the front seats, and my daughter would plug her iPad into a jack in the back seat and listen to her music in back. It is very cool. we would be listening to different music and still be able to converse with each other. Only my music feed will mute for ATC.

I have and have been happy with the 8000bt. I have used the bluetooth for phone, but have music hardwired from my Garmin396. I am not sure that you can bluetooth music and if it would be in stereo. You can set it to automatically mute for the pilot. The monitor feature is also very useful to allow you to listen to audio from your second nav-comm, but have it muted when there is activity on your primary.

The autopilots in our planes use pitch to stay on glide-slope, because they do not have access to power. When hand-flying an approach use power to control rate of decent and trim for desired airspeed adding small pitch adjustments as needed and your workload becomes much easier.

I have used the Hartzell factory service facility twice over the years and was pleased both times. The are located at the airport in Piqua, OH (I 17). Call ahead for price and appointment. Both times that I went the gave me an office, WIFI, a car to use to get lunch and completed my work the same day. They do good work at a fair price. Toll free number: 877-251-5362

José, I am glad it went well. How long were you grounded following the surgery? Thanks, Glenn

I do not know if this will be of use to you or not. I have attached a few photos of what top access to the back of the panel is with the Lasar windshield. The hole is covered with an easily removable glare shield. Obviously once the windshield was installed it prevented access from outside of the airplane, but service has not been awful.

I don't recall specifically, but I want to say 2 or 3 weeks. The paint came later. That took 2 weeks at Sturgis, MI.

Thanks. I did Flap Gap Seals at the same time and have been happy with the result.

I had this mod installed at Midwest M20 in Flora, IL (KFOA) a number of years ago. the attached pictures may be of use to you. I did a number of other mods at the same time so I cannot tell you its effect on performance.Putting it between the sheet metal gives it a nice finished appearence.

I redid the panel a little too soon to take advantage of all of the new stuff. The current set-up has been adequate to keep me from getting lost.

Hank. My altitude hold is not coupled. It will hold altitude, or it will hold airspeed in climb or descent.
-
I will inform you of the outcome. I am leaning toward the upgrade. The Brittain all works, and the altitude module was back at the factory for overhaul last year. It is a neat install that takes little panel space. Thank you all for the thoughtful input.

Please send a link. I would love to see it. Thanks

Good advice. Thanks

The Garmin looks like a great value. The obvious question is will it be available to us any time soon. Thanks

Thanks John. That is encouraging.

My 1967 M20F currently has a working PC system. Over the years I have added Accu-Flite heading-hold, and Altitude hold. It all works but I am getting an irrational urge to upgrade to a more modern system. Perhaps an S-Tec 55X. I would be interested to hear the experience of others who have gone this route. I would be particularly grateful if someone would bring me back to my senses and talk me out of this.

Your vernatherm may be staying open.

How well does the PC Wing Leveler Work?
Glenn replied to Bradg33's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
You might try lubricating everything between the yoke and the ailerons. Friction in the system will cause it to overshoot or hunt. -
On my 1987 F , I use both a wire hook and velcro to secure 3" scat tubing to the heat outlet that is half way between the throttle and the floor, and run it straight back. I put it in place after retracting the gear (Johnson Bar) and remove it prior to gear extension. Simple but effective.

Does anyone know if the sealant previously STCed by Midwest M20 can be easily stripped or repaired? I had my "F" sealed about 10 years ago, and it is still good, but I am concerned that this process may now be orphaned.

I had the exact same issue on my F a number of years ago. It turned out that the tech put a sheet metal screw through the wire harness when replacing the upholstery in the pilot's foot-well. It is also possible that a wire to one of the nav lights has frayed where it goes through the fuselage or through a wing rib. I don't know that this will be helpful, but it's a place to start.
