  1. the 650 requires a full re-wiring (if i understand correctly) while the 440 does not wondering what benefit you get with the 650 ? (that you would not get with the 440). I am assuming both units have about the same life runway (since they came up about the same time more or less)
  2. I ll add to that .... that it may not be a bad idea to actually write somewhere / or take pictures of all the configurations screens even if you are not planning for a swap (in case a unit decides to suddenly not power)
  3. I suppose the mag was reinstalled by a local A&P after being overhauled. Any A&P with some experience (with basic timing tools) would know how to troubleshoot the issue: spark plugs, harness, magneto, ignition switch.
  4. The magneto needs to be removed , visually inspected or bench tested . Check the capacitors as well
  5. unless the renter pays only for fuel, does not that change the maintenance requirements ? maybe simply 100h inspection instead of annual
  6. Also depends on what the rest of the plane looks like ( or what your plan for the rest of the plane is) personally ( and only personally ) , I have never been a fan of a million$ interior or panel or … if the rest of the craft looks like s…
  7. Download generic POH and the weight and balance table / equipment list will have CG locations for different instruments
  8. Wondering why that even went to a pre-buy inspection. isn’t a visual inspection always the first step ?
  9. Another thing to keep in mind is that a 337 requirement / non requirement is not related to the complexity or difficulty of an installation
  10. I will be in France in 2 days and Italy next week !
  11. The one on the right in the picture (close to the door ) is. The curved one on the left is not .
  12. certainly a cheap fix to try but my bet is that if it was a seep, we would see streaks rather than that pattern
  13. yes, usually happens if either the panel or skin is even slightly warped leaving a channel for the fuel. It does not make the fix trivial. Adding sealant on top will look ugly for sure (and not necessarily fix the issue) only other option is to remove the panel
  14. no , the skin is not cracked and no need for riveting. at this stage, the OP does NOT have to do anything (no leak), but if he wants to fix the eyesore, might as well fix both area where the sealant is failing (the screw on the right and the curved part of the panel on the left) removing the panel will make some sealant pieces / crumbs fall in the tank/fuel (and personally I would not like that even if there is a filter at the fuel pick up. but thats just me) Of course, the OP can also simply take care of the biggest eyesore (the screw) with simply removing a little bit of the wing walk
  15. Because it looks like the panel is also leaking on the left side in the first picture and that’s not just a screw .
  16. you know what the painful parts will be ? getting the wing walk compound off (without damaging the white paint) and emptying the tank all downhill from there (I just went through that) and while you are at it, change the fuel drain to a new one and check that the lower panel is sealed (the large one by the fuel drain)
  17. And customers willing to pony up that sort of money as well. The big money the shops charge is exactly equal to the big money folks are ready to fork out
  18. I am curious how many lives the ELT saved in the lower 48 US. my guess is 0 Steve Fosset was found after a year or so i am not talking about flying in northern Canada or crossing the Indian Ocean
  19. Technology has made a lot of progress. We ( I personally don’t ) like complex systems that “talk” to each other the result is install manuals that are 500+ pages for A&P to read when they were trained for a different set of skills
  20. just make sure you store those items so they don't rust ... from my chemistry lessons ... as soon as you make steel, it wants to go back to go back to its original ore state
  21. This reminds me of an instance when someone years ago wanted a ride in a Mooney to see how it flies before buying one. First and last time.
  22. "flying particles" in KLVK have a mooney (J) for rent
  23. reading your older post when you removed the mag . Did you actually look at it ? what was wrong with points ? Just curious what "bad" meant ? burnt ? not closing ?
  24. do you have a hand mic ? that should answer your question having said that, not sure why anyone would want to remove it. access is a pain. leave it alone or if you go through the pain of removing the panels to remove , replace it .
