  1. I get it. The leak repair in the MM is a recommendation. not called a patch but really the same thing. calls for removing old sealant around the leak (usually a rivet or nut)
  2. I wonder how many actually do that
  3. no need to rush to 1500h ... the airlines hiring has very much slowed down
  4. the CI-196 is more pointy the CI-156 is slightly "fatter" I put the CI-196 baseplate on the CI196 and on the CI-156 in the last 2 pictures respectively should be easy to make a baseplate form a piece of aluminum sheet
  5. I have both in my hangar and can check this weekend
  6. anyone knows what the part number for the ignition harness is for the dual mag ? I believe the Bendix part number is 10-821414-8 but this may be superseded or has other PMA part numher
  7. item 6) why no inspect yourself .... easy to remove the seats and take your time to not break the brittle plastic ... a good project for rainy day (assuming you have a hangar)
  8. the 7 antenna is a CI156. the replacement for is CI-196 (same nuts / bolts footprint so no need to drill new holes) the rear one is fairly easy to change, easy hat rack headliner to remove / get access the front one is a bit more involved ....
  9. I believe it actually should heat up fairly fast (feels warm within seconds the switch is turned on)
  10. not sure why but the 12V are a lot more money than the 24V version
  11. I am not sure trainers are that cheap anymore ! I went and check ASO ... 45k for a 152 !! dang
  12. since some asked if I could send a copy of the pdf I created a while ago using the info in these post (with the pictures ) , I am including it for the MS community. Thanks to the OPer IO-360-A3B6 Installation.pdf
  13. I am not sure you can see the letter when the mag is attached what is the issue you are trying to solve ?
  14. remove all the spark plugs set the #1 cylinder to 25 deg BTDC (confirm that the point location on the starter gear is at the right location) the mag adaptor should look like this (see 1st picture) put the K in the top window (it should look like the 2nd and 3rd picture) I find it helpful to use the mag lock tool (not impossible to do without but the space is so confined that it will likely unlock without the tool) https://www.aircraft-tool.com/detail?id=ML20 make sure the gasket is in place and does not fall, use new lock washers each time you remove the nuts (order a bunch before starting the job !), follow the manuals instructions, ...
  15. reinstalled / timed the dual mag a few times on my plane. The first time, I needed some guidance and called Lycoming. Very helpful folks. But i remember the customer service thinking that i called because i dropped the cushion in the case (which was not the case) and right away said it was not a big deal and just to install a new one. I also remember that those cushions can come out of place and drop. A thin layer of grease helps keep them in place.
  16. the oil change maybe a different story. I trust many / most pilot owners change the oil (and possibly filter) between annuals but are reluctant to make a logbook entry - although sort of "required" but not really. Certified IFR but no back up AI : is there a functioning / and airworthy TC or not ?
  17. i wired several old analog system to new digital systems (DAC or G5) i found it difficult to link the symptom to the cause. It either works or it does not. Check that the settings are configured correctly. If they are, the harness will need to be checked and maybe rebuild if they cannot trace every single wire to the right pin
  18. not sure about that. a lower priced aircraft would have a larger number of potential buyers if the minimum is there (like a solid airframe , being airworthy and ADS-B)
  19. a big difference is that when it comes to avionics, many equipments cannot be purchased without buying the install from the service center
  20. should be in the manual one of the reasons (probably others), it is not 100% usable is because the fuel pick up is not the lowest point to avoid feeding the engine contaminants. the fuel drain is the lowest point.
  21. test has not changed. it is still about checking that the transponder is transmitting close enough to 1090
  22. well ... just go to a\your favorite motorcycle shop or to Tap Plastic and .... Plexus will be available at non-aviation price !
  23. i ll be in Vegas this weekend ... can i get a ride ? congrats !
  24. your maintainer is very brave, I would not want my signature anywhere near that writeup saying that that plane is airworthy
