  1. I don't think I had many more hours than that when I decided I would fly a Mooney one day. I remember being at KWHP, seeing one taxi by, and asking what it was. It was a long road though. I decided I would wait until I got my instrument rating, and that's exactly what I did. I knew I would be better off if I learned to fly with precision and had the capability to use the plane for its mission. Next, I found a Mooney C model to take some lessons in. This was extremely helpful in making the transition from the Cessna 172 to the 201. I'm glad I didn't botch those first few Mooney landings in my own plane. By the time I took delivery of the 201 I already had the feel for it from the C model. If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish your goal, but don't take any shortcuts. Their aren't any reset buttons in real life.
  2. What about turning the prop a couple times? Would that spread some oil without combustion?
  3. My understanding is that running the engine on the ground can be harmful as the act of combustion creates moisture. If you don't run it hot enough to burn that moisture you are doing more harm than good. Am I wrong?
  4. I'd like to go for 23 degrees, even though my A3B6 is flat-tappet. My left Magneto came with Slick 4372 and right is Slick 4370, so can I just replace my Slick 4372 which is the one that's a 20 degree mag? Still trying to learn, so I may have this wrong. My mags only have 250 hours, so if I can use the 4370, I'd like to. Would I need to have them both set for a specific lag angle before the engine timing was changed to 23 degrees?
  5. Jetdriven - I see you're online. Any idea why our engines were shipped with the optional 20 degrees instead of 25?
  6. Jetdriven - Any update? I tried to send you a message, but Mooneyspace wouldn't let me (said your account couldn't take any new messages). I'm still interested in doing this and hearing what you got out of it. Also, what to know what was involved.
  7. I sent an email highlighting the fact that until this moment they had been seen as a potential magnet for the aerospace industry, such as ICON. I added that they are sending the aviation community the message that they shouldn't be taken seriously anymore for such endeavors as they seem to value a motel more than their aero-infrustructure.
  8. I'm pretty sure it's required for continued airworthiness. I wonder what my GoPro 2 is worth now?

  10. I'm thinking that you are coming over the fence with a bit too much energy and leveling off too high. Every situation is different, but in normal conditions I would want to be 5-10 knots slower over the fence, say 70 knots. I am full flaps, generally with only idle power, but I will add a touch if density altitude is a factor. I fly the plane down to where I feel the wheels are about 6 inches over the runway. How do I know? I don't know...I basically use the force. Then I wait. Being impatient, or trying to force the plane onto the runway, has been the cause of many a Mooney accident. I wait for the plane to decide that it's ready to land and as it tries to settle on the runway, I hold the nose where it was on the horizon, until the mains have contacted the runway. People make the mistake of arriving in ground effect with too much energy and try to land the plane instead of setting the conditions for the plane to land itself. Hope that helps.
  11. That doesn't look correct to me. Mine goes all the way down to my wing, but I have the extended cover.
  12. Has anyone tried non-standard or no flap configurations when taking off from high-elevation airports? I haven't done that kind of experimenting (always take off with take-off flaps).
  13. It's harder to find photos with the new format. Maybe if the "Recently Updated" icons were larger, it might be easier to see what was new.
  14. From the album: Mooney Art

Something Mooney can use, if they ever come back, like the Phoenix we all know they are.
  15. There are only so many Mooneys in existence. It makes me cringe to think of people learning how to land in any of them.
  16. That is impressive. I had heard that some of the people behind the SR-71 worked on Mooneys, but I didn't know they installed a secret button I've failed to discover.

  22. If it turned out that 20 degrees wasn't manditory, maybe we could just buy 25 degree mags, restamp the plate, adjust the logs and fly? How much would 25 degree mags run? Quite a bit less than Electroair I think.
