  1. Clarence: My temp profile is very similar to yours.
  2. JRob: Congratulations. Solo done. Now keep it up to get 'er done. "...For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return...." * * A most famous aviation quote that is not really verifiable. It is attributed everywhere (including some Smithsonian publications and the Washington Post) to Leonardo da Vinci, but it cannot be definitively attributed to him. One of our Mooneyspace members (Aerobat95) uses it as his signature line.
  3. Maybe it is because I am not paying as much attention as I should, but I have never seen any oil on the back of my prop. One of my walkaround items is to look inside the spinner to see if oil has pooled on the bottom (I always put my prop blades horizontal when I park the aircraft). I have never seen any.
  4. Quote: jezzie .....I am spending a lot more than I have planned. This is what happens when you like Mooney's. I probably will never get my money back as far as the investment goes..... ......I did however tell my AME to smack me on the side of my face if I bring any more add ons!!!
  5. Aerobat95 Army. Signal Corps. 22 great years. Now back to our regularly scheduled discussion regarding a Mooney that may still be for sale.....
  6. Aerobat95: Is that the inside of the flight deck of a C-130 I see behind you in your avatar? Been a long, long time. Never flew them, but was transported by them (in more than one delivery mode).
  7. Drapo: Bienvenue chez nous. You will enjoy flying your Mooney. It is a great aircraft - but you probably already know that. Where are you going to keep C-GJDP? You have a number of choices in and around Montreal. Wish I had as many here in Toronto. I miss Rockcliffe already.
  8. Quote: skyking ... We may have more freedom and less goverment interference in our life that the US does these days but we are taking the political correctness to new levels.
  9. Sometimes I get the same thing and I just reload the page. That normally works for me, but it may not be working for you.
  10. Double post - sorry
  11. Ken: How much of your new panel is vacuum driven, now that the Aspen is installed? Are you using the vacuum system as your backup to the electrical one?
  12. Another slow news day, I see......
  13. Quote: Jeff_S Be that as it may, what the hell do you do with this?
  14. Quote: skyking I remember my old major telling us a hundred times " Men. today we are going to ( fill in the blank)?" so i KNOW i am male. The military told me so!
  15. For as long as I can remember too........ When I was in grade 6 or 7, I would go to the library and lose myself in the section numbered 629 under the Dewey Decimal System. There was a time when I could quote the page number of many of the aircraft listed in Janes All the World's Aircraft for years 1966 and 1967. What a Geek!!! Now I am a 57 year old dude living the dream of a 10 year old boy. How cool is that??
  16. Quote: piperpainter Just curious has this helped anyone?
  17. 14 for me. Got me by surprise. I will always remember the feeling sitting at the end of 19 in Kingston Ontario in November 1986 after Bill told me to take it up for two by myself. "Get off the runway!!!! Its mine!!!!" Or, uh, words to that effect.....
  18. I was at 160 or so. Had time in 172's, Cherokees and about 10 in a friend's E model. That was 5 years and 400 hours ago.
  19. Quote: carusoam "how may of you would be comfortable taking off in a nearly maxed weight airplane, on a warm to hot day, on a relively short runway into rising terrain with trees at the end of the runway, with only 7 hours in a complex airplane with 3 generations of a family on board?" I would. (in a Mooney) I would be equally or more comfortable to sit in the back while Jolie does the flying. Her pre-flight planning is complete.
  20. I am a no-music kind of driver too. It would be OK for pax, but my girl is my only long-distance passenger and she either wants to comment on scenery, or talk, or (quite often) sleep (and the bumpier the better for her). For others, it is normally fam flights and no need for music to drown out the OOhs and AAhs. When I am alone, I normally like to spend my time prepping for the next step, especially when I am in the soup. Anticipated frequency changes, AWOS, ATIS, ETAs, ETEs, waypoint idents, fuel burns, CHTs, EGTs, time to next change of tanks, TAS, nearest airfield (in-case) etc. Hey!!! I am an engineer and engineers like working with numbers. Someday, when I have 3000 hours IFR and the cockpit flows are all rote (for whatever situation arises) and music helps focus things (like in the movie Iron Eagles) - maybe. But not today. There are situations where music does do that for me, but flying is not yet one of them.
  21. Richard: Welcome back to the world of Mooneydom. It has been a while and a couple of lists ago. I suggest you contact Parker Woodruff (a member of this list). He lives in Kerrville and he flies a J model. He is also an instructor. His contact information is available through his avatar page at: http://mooneyspace.net/index.cfm?mainaction=memberdetails&member=237. Good luck.
  22. Quote: KLRDMD And he also swore by the 496 before that, and the 396 before that. Pretty much any portable that Garmin makes, Don will swear by.
  23. Steven: My mechanic used the same process in 2004 when the pre-buy revealed leaks. He did the work at the seller's expense and it works great. Almost six years later and no leaks.
  24. Tony: From the responses you have received, you can determine that those responding do not agree with your mechanic. Differences of opinion are OK, but I am not certain any of us who responded are licensed mechanics. I am not. You are getting advice from an A&P and you may wish to hear the opinions of some very well-respected A&Ps (AME's in Canada) whom you can ask and are gurus when it comes to Mooneys. Tom Rouch at Top Gun, Don Maxwell at Maxwell Aviation, Paul Loewen at LASAR, Ronnie Kramer at Dugosh, Russell Stallings at Southwest Texas Aviation, Clarence Beintema at Tri-City Aero just to name a few. Call any of them and ask the same question. I would be interested in your mechanic's reaction when you give him the responses you get back.
