  1. RC Allen makes some crappy stuff. 8 years ago I ordered a 2 inch RCA Turn&Bank from Spruce ($1400). It worked 13 months. No offer of adjustment from Spruce or RCA. I Replaced it with electric horizon with ball. Good luck
  2. Tail wind Aviation in Beaufort NC is a new avionics shop. They did my IFR recert and I have seen some panels they have done. Looked Good. Call Kevin Snyder at 252. 515.4081
  3. Hi All, I am based at KMRH. My hanger #49 is serving as a meet/rest area for the Carolina Aero Club. Mooneys are welcome too. The FBO situation has improved and is now in line with most "for profit" FBOs. The ramp fee is waved for this event. If you wish to contact me or have questions use my cell 919.819.3451. Eddie
  4. Hi Jolie, The table, chairs and weights will be in my hanger (#49). Just call me at 919.819.3451 to arrange delivery. My hanger is serving as a meet, rest and re-cooperate spot for the Carolina Aero Club. Mooneys are welcome too. Eddie
  5. Hi Jolie and Point Person I am based in Beaufort and might be able to help some. As a member of the local EAA and Carolina Aero Club, I am pretty heavily obligated already. If you or others need help feel free to call me. My cell is 919.819.34351. Eddie
  6. I had a similar problem 2 years ago. Plane went in for annual and before annual started great (100 hours on engine and accessories). Changed switch twice, shower of sparks module, pleads, replaced points in starting mag. Still would not start properly. Mechanic wanted to replace mag. I sent mag to overhauler to check. He found nothing wrong with it but he set the gap on starting points to near max. We put the mag back and have had no starting problem since. I spent 5 days working with my mechanic, He ate 30 man hours and parts except the switch all because the gap needed to be wider. CHECK THE STARTING POINTS GAP FIRST
  7. The stay sealed covers were junk. Blew off on first use.
  8. Hi Mike, My insurance pays me to move the airplane. Did that once several years ago but could not fly back home as the governor declared the NC coast a disaster area. The cat 2 did very little damage to decent structures. July 2014 we had a cat 1 direct hit. I did not move the plane. That said as of last year new hangers were built and I have one. The hanger looks stronger than my house. Most owners in Beaufort would not consider leaving a good airplane outside storm or no storm. The wind always blows and carries salt. Good luck to us all.
  9. Hi Mike, I will have to pass on your Accu-Trak 11. Hector will get a good deal. Sorry for any time you may have wasted. Thanks, Eddie
  10. Hi. I am very very interested in your package. I have been in discussion with my avionics guy about an install of one of these. Unfortunately, I can not reach him right now. Have you been using the system? I plan to install in a 1966 E that has a fully functional PC. Will this system work in the E after a check by the manufacturer? I would like to talk to your about the system tomorrow. My cell is 919.819.3451 thanks, Eddie Todd
  11. Hi Tom, I might be interested in the seat covers. Are they for front and rear seats or just pilot and copilot? How do they attach? straps? Also I have the standard low back seats with no head rests. Post pictures when you get a chance. Thanks, Eddie
  12. Door key zip tied in aft battery access. Emergency ignition key hid in cabin area.
  13. Hi Dave, I know your pain. After an annual my E turned over good but would not fire. 60 hours on a fwf. We replaced the switch twice, SOS vibrator, replaced points in the SOS mag even if it was only 60 hours old, checked everything, replaced p leads. Finally sent the starting mag back to the overhauler to check. He found no problem but he reset the points for the SOS to near max gap. 2 years later working fine. I spent 2 weeks with my IA chasing the problem. He and I had set the gap to the mid range. I believe the gap being too tight was all the problem. Wider gap, hotter spark. Try that first. Costs to me $500. Costs to my IA who ate the parts and 60 hours labor were bad. He found switches for less. Eddie
  14. I too learned to fly at W17 and lived in the area 45 years. Raleigh East is a north/south runway slightly narrow and up hill. Services are now marginal. However the Carolina Aero Club is hosting a trip there Saturday 6/13. Will probably be a big turnout. Free food and people who will transport you. Unfortunately, I will not be there due to just returning home after extensive travel. The Stell family is hosting the event. Dexter, Deckie, David and the rest of the Stell family have a 60 year involvement at W17.
  15. I had a selector in a C jam in the off position as you must pass through off to go from left to right tank. Result was an off airport landing. I check the selector in my E with religion.
  16. If you have the "SHOWER OF SPARKS" one mag is turned off during start. The problem can be switch, mag points, plead, multi vibrator or combination of these. Had a similar problem ended up replacing ALL to fix the problem. The mechanic ate many hours of trouble shooting. Good luck
  17. I love twins. Owned one Aztec for 27 years, another Aztec 5 years before that, and an Apache. The Aztecs were usually flown 500 pounds under gross weight. They would climb on 1 engine from 50 feet and go around on 1 engine with no problem IF YOU DO IT RIGHT!! The Apache was sad and Twin Comanche required more proficiency than I kept. I had engine failures in the Aztec and flew it to airports. I do not fly as much now and little over water so the Mooney is a better choice. 10GPH vs 30GPH at10 knots slower. Annuals and repairs on the Aztec were 3 to 4 times my simple E Mooney. I miss the huge cabin, the ability to climb and descent at 2,000 per min and easy landing. But Eddie
  18. Scott is his correct first name. Tanner Aviation Services was the company name.
  19. Hi, I was based at Fuquay Anger for 27 years before moving to Beaufort. I see you are at Harnett county. I have used Ken Tanner at HRJ years ago. He used to be shop manager for a MSC. Have trained another mechanic at Beaufort so I have not used Ken for 7 years. Ken is honest.
  20. Hi Ottorecker, How did you get 2 Tokyo Bikes in the rear baggage of a C? I got one in the rear baggage with considerable effort. I guess my E shrunk last time I washed it. Explanation and pix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eddie
  21. I fly day trips to visit my Mom in Wilmington. Never stayed nights and usually rent a car to travel to her assisted living home. I use Aero Service North. Never had a problem but I am a low services user. They are staffed on holidays and don't bend my nose wheel tubes. Eddie
  22. I will recheck the boot and if not that go after the lines. Keeper. Yes, met her 42 years ago. She had just got her PPL on her 17th birthday.
  23. Thanks. I used triflow. Have not had anyone (my wife has been assisting) willing to stick their hair in the prop wash. The boot looks good and has no bad spots. I think I will wipe and lightly sand some spots on the step and lube again. Eddie
  24. The vacuum operated step on my Ë quit retracting. I cleaned and lubed it to no success. Next I replaced the tape and checked the boot. Now the step goes up about half. Vacuum pressure at the pump is good. Any suggestions as the Mooney service instruction are a bit thin? Is there any adjustment and how far should the boot be up on the servo? Thanks, Eddie
  25. Yes, bikes are beautiful machines. The ancestors of airplanes.
