  1. I got my IR back in the days of the Mark 12a and Lear ADF. I take a yearly IC check because I now fly so little IFR. I also found an instructor who owned a Mooney. He wants me to use ALL equipment on the aircraft (PC, DME, GPS for situation awareness and my pilot wife as co-pilot).
  2. The 496 mount is from Hendricks. It did not require compass move and does not cause compass problems. The Hendricks mount is better made and fits tighter that others. The ipad is in a Ram mount canted so i can see it and my pilot wife can also see it. Sunlight is a problem at some sun angles. We are working on that.
  3. Hi All, Attached is the best mounting for portable electronic toys I could come up with. 496 mounted on center post, ipad on copilot yoke and handheld transciever on pilot yoke. Any suggestions other than trash the panel mounted stuff. Happy New Year Eddie
  4. Went to the airport today to check on my 1966 E. Snow today so no flying. I noted a small fuel stain on the hanger floor and a drip from the "weep" drain from the electric fuel pump. Upon turning the fuel pump on the rate of drip increased. Don Maxwell's (I see Don has joined this forum)Publication on External Hoses, Tubes and Fitings indicates that an electric fuel pump replacement is in order. I will have the local AP check it this week. Has anyone had experience with overhaul or purchase of the Dukes 4140-00-21 pump? thanks,
  5. I am considering replacing my King KNS 80 with a 430w. One avionics shop believes I can use the KI 206 as an indicator with the 430. Another shop does not agree. Any input as to using the KI206? Using it is a 1.5 AMU savings.
  6. Lood is right. I tried several option with a 496 in my E and the Hendricks mount is the best. I am now trying different mounting options with an iPad. The ipad RAM mounted on the co-pilot yoke is the best option yet but some sun angles are problems.
  7. Hi Guys, I home based on a 2800 foot dog-legged good grass strip for 33 years. 27 years flying an Aztruck, 3 years other aircraft and 3 years in an Mooney E. The Mooney does well on grass but requires better pilot techique than the CBP aircraft. If the runway is ruff the Mooney will bounce just before rotation. Rotation needs to be a the lowest possible speed (soft field proceedure if there is such a thing in a Mooney). The low speed lift off presents another problem if there is a strong cross wind from the left (most grass fields have only 1 runway). The rudder power on the E is low due to the short body and short rudder. The combination of low speed lift off, P factor and left cross wind is exciting. I like flying the Mooney off Beaufort with 3 paved runways much better even with the higher winds on the NC coast.
  8. Hi All, Been thinking about light space saving headsets. Has anyone had experience with these headsets? Thanks Eddie
  9. Hi Guys, I am almost ready to get an iPad 3G for charts and other uses. Has anyone devised a good place and mounting in an E. I have read prior posts and positioning seems to be a big problem. The panel on my E is full and I have a 496 attached to the center post. Any input and pictures would be great. The yokes are free except for a clock and mike/PC switches. Thanks for any input and comments on iPad 3G usefulness.
  10. Hi All, Have been using Avemco due to good past experiences ( lowest rates on an Aztec and pay out on an off airport landing in another Mooney). However for 3,000TT, 1800 multi, 2600 retract instrument and 60 AMU hull Avemco wants 1.6 AMU. Travers wants 1 AMU for more coverage. Any experience with Travers or others?
