  1. And never ever ever retract flaps on go around before confirming prc.
  2. Such as found in a top aviation oil.
  3. Frankly, Byron, what you put in your engine is your decision. Just be careful you don't spill any of that kool-aid you're drinking in your engine! It will form rust. I refuse to contaminate my engine with additives. I choose instead to fly my airplane at least once a week, use the best oil money can buy, i.e. Aeroshell 15W50, and change it q ~35 hours as prescribed. You see Byron? It's easy!
  4. It does not "prevent" it. A top quality aviation oil such as Aeroshell will do better than any additive.
  5. There's also no evidence that any additive "prevents rust and corrosion".
  6. That's intetesting you use avblend. Ronnie at Dugosh recommended it as well. What exactly is it and how does it work in the engine. I'm a firm believer in flying the airplane, using the best oil money can buy and change it religiously. I don't believe in additives.
  7. Wow! Unbelievable!
  8. Have you checked her... umm... political affiliation! Double verify where she stands and don't underestimate this influence. Some women have a tendency to behave in an illogical manner and very erratically this close to the elections! Something with that extra X chromosome! Especially with a woman on the ticket! Remember zone of ambiguity? Well this is similar behavior! I've seen it and it's a frenzy!
  9. I'm not familiar with the K service and maintenance manual but does it say anything else? Any other instructions accompanying that item #5 you cited? It sounds to me those are instructions for an aircraft with glazed cylinders that's in storage but flyable and should also be flown. This instruction should be accompanied by one that says to also fly it every month or so. In other words pulling the prop as per item #5 does'nt negate flying it.
  10. Your friend shouldn't have asked you and put you in a tough spot. How would he feel if something happened to your plane under his watch? How would the student feel? How would you feel? Tell him no be because you value your friendship and don't feel bad about it. That's why there are rentals. Offer to help them find one.
  11. Here you go. I think Zep knows a thing or two about cleaners! I use it to quickly clean windshield and leading edges after just about every flight. Removes bugs and leaves a brilliant shine. Plexus is good but Zep is better. I just can't see paying 20$ for 13 oz of "aliphatic petroleum distillates." Essentially kerosene and mineral spirits. That's 10 gallons worth of kerosene! I also use the Aeroshell Flight Jacket system which is excellent. Plexicoat on the windows inside and out every so often. Keeps them shinny new.
  12. I researched it prior to using it. Called Zep with specific questions about plexiglass. It contains Ethylene Glycol which is innocuous to plexiglass and no ammonia. They recommend it for acrylic glass and plexiglass. It's specifically stated on the can.
  13. -1 plexus. +1 ZEP 19 oz. Foaming Glass Cleaner. I use it on the entire exterior and interior except on the leather. Cleans plexiglass, removes oil smudges and breaks down organic soils like bugs and fingerprints quickly. Leaves a clean shine! I find Plexus very expensive at 20$ for a 13 oz. can and nothing particularly special about it! The ZEP is a 19 oz. can for $2.97 at the local Home Depot.
  14. Just count your blessings and be thankful nothing happened. That's what counts and that's all you can do. It may have been that he just didn't see you. Similar thing happened to me at Mt. Pocono, (KMPO) several years ago only worse. This was before adsb. I was flying an Arrow on final approach preparing to land when literally out of nowhere comes an airplane from no more than 50 feet above me, and cuts in front of me! No radio calls no nothing. He had to be deaf mute and blind not to hear my radio calls or see me! Must've had to go bad! I broke the approach and let him land. We have to make room for the idiots amongst us! They will always be around us.
  15. The equivalent flat plate area (EFPA) of the J is 2.81ft² or 405 in². I'd imagine the O should be about the same. For comparison the Bonanza is 3.47 ft² or 500 in². Edit: The 518 in² is closer to the Bonanza EFPA.
  16. Master Card.
  17. I would think the aerodynamically inefficient cowl would be more of a priority in the C than the windshield.
  18. I'm not versed in the C at all but it seems to me force fitting a windshield that doesn't belong is a lot of work. What is the most compelling reason to do this? Although an argument could be made the esthetics are improved, the stock C is not a bad looking airplane imo. Does speed improve considerably?
  19. Whatever... It's a matter of trust. Personally I place my trust to take care of my engine in Aeroshell. Produced by a global petrochemicals leader established over 100 years ago with 265 billion$ annual revenue. They know what they're doing.

That poor guy at Sky Manor must've missed the memo and didn't have an AOA gadget!
  21. What do you guys do with your switches! Why do you abuse them! Take it easy...will you?!
  22. Aeroshell 15W50 year round. Change oil religiously q 30-35 hours or 4 months. Airplane lives in NJ where temps range from 15° F to 90° F on average.
  23. That's a start. I know in NJ at least even the driving privilege is obtained in stages with restrictions every step of the way.
  24. We can wait two years for yet another NTSB report and by then this will be old news. We'll be talking about another tragedy and of course waiting for another NTSB report two years after that. On and on. In my opinion, folks, we need to look at pilot qualifications and scrutinize who can rent what airplane. Doing the minimum like a checkout to satisfy insurance requirements is being, well...negligent. On both sides of the transaction. And although it is a transaction it has to be looked at as a lot more than a transaction. There are lives at stake. We need to look at the potential renter's log book and determine what airplane he/she can rent based on time in make and model. They should only be able to rent and carry passengers in the airplane they have the most time and therefore experience in. Does anyone feel that's too much regulation to handle? (Not referring specifically to this tragedy as the exact circumstances are not known.)
  25. Hubris to all of us Hank if we get stuck in the "wow it's horrible what happened to this poor pilot. May they rest in peace" stage. I'd like to hear from folks how are we going to carry the discussion further than that. A lot further thsn that. Take actions to address and make steps in resolving our crisis in GA as illustrated by this event. We are GA and this is our crisis. We need a long term strategy to find solutions. How are we going to make changes? We owe it to ourselves and God knows we owe it to our passengers. If we forget this and let it slowly disappear in the sunset until the next one wakes us up, hubris to all of us. My questions were: when do we, (as in we collectively in GA), look and scrutinize closely at who can rent what airplane? When do we seriously look at currency, total time, and time in make and model? When do we look at our pilot training model and see if it can be improved? These are unpopular things to talk about. They may be perceived as more regulation. Peehaps thete's dome truth to that. But are we up to the task of self regulating our GA? Certainly we can't be killing ourselves and our pax with our negligence. I don't hear anything being discussed.
