Nope, nothing given in my Owners Manual. Maybe it's on the Type Certificate? But yes, it does turn right better than left. Turning to back taxi on a 75' runway is something I did before takeoff and after landing for the first six years of ownership. The wingtips certainly extended well beyond the asphalt on both sides, though. Seems barely over 50' of asphalt was required, left main on the edge, throttle to idle, full right rudder, no brakes. With 6' snowbanks, put the left wingtip as close to it as possible, hopefully partially over it, throttle to idle, full right rudder, add some right brake, add some throttle, add more right brake, watch the left wingtip. If too close, stop, shut down and use the towbar to push back and forth. The best option is to not fly that day, or if already flying, to land somewhere else.

Runways were never a problem, but I've been to airports where the lights were at the taxiway edges, going under both wings. Real high lights, so they would be visible after it snowed in Ohio. I was nervous there even in June.

So where is this video? I looked for it just now, it's not in this thread. But there is a beautiful photo of his new prop!

Mine is two pieces that telescope together, with a pin to keep it short for stowing or long for towing. It's aftermarket, and had a nice sticker in it, but I got tired of getting rust on my hands and powder coated it. Chief? Maybe on of the other smaller houses, I forget. Haven't seen one that folds, and it seems like it would be hard to sump the tanks with the folded towbar attached to the cup. I just keep a fuel sample cup on the hatrack shelf (along with spare headsets, travel chocks, bungees for control locks and a couple of hats).

Nah, flying shouldn't be dependent on an uncertified, battery-powered unit running often-modified, uncertified software. Except for Experimental aircraft. I'll just avoid the whole mess, since I have no panel space for a large traffic display.

I hear the harmonic argument a lot. My 3-blade was dynamicly balanced when the previous owner installed it. I've not noticed it vibrating a whole lot, and no pax have mentioned it (except one Comanche 250 pilot who said his wife wouldn't fly with him due to the vibration, and he had a 2-blade). But I, too, will defer to the expert. @Cody Stallings

I'm a fan of the "stay out if their airspace and wait" approach. When they crank up user fees, I'll stop using ATC at all and revert back to VFR. I will listen to ATC as I pass Atlanta, but I won't talk to them. Bet this will be a popular approach. But Dan, installing the new Garmin ADS-B box will be mostly programming and wiring, with little application for mechanical skills. Best of luck to the rest of the G1000 crowd. Look out for the rest of us, at least my Mode C squawk should show up on the box for you.

Tank Reseal Looking for PIREP for Houston Tank Specialists, LLC
Hank replied to redraider's topic in General Mooney Talk
Looks good! On time and on budget will be gravy on this job. -
This would make sense if the engine is seized, but even then, some rotation is likely. This will mitigate the force exerted on the crankshaft. But running or not, it will be hard on the crankshaft.

Barnwell, SC, was a great fuel stop headed NW out of Savannah to save $2+ per gallon. It's a little further than MYR but not a whole lot at Mooney speed.

Nothing in my Mooney is White. Parked beside one with the modern "swoosh" paint scheme with a bright white base layer, the off-whiteness of mine is obvious. And no, it's not faded, miscolored or UV damaged, it's just the base color applied two owners ago. I painted the interior with SEM Almond. Even the powder coated yokes aren't bright white.

Cool. Let's save the date, and talk when it gets closer. We may be able to load up both planes, pilot plus two is my limit with baggage. I'll carry the tents, you bring the beer!
-
I missed it last year due to storms over the weekend. Anyone in AL/GA interested in a quick trip? I'm available Fri, Sat, Sun, and am not averse to sleeping in a tent. Even found my tent and sleeping bag as I unpack here in the new house! Flying into LAL isn't bad, it's just a busy environment and you need to know the procedure before you get there. Having a second set of eyes in the cockpit is helpful. Your onscreen traffic display won't help a whole lot, you'll be too busy looking outside, plus lots of Vintage plans don't have transponders. Champ or Cub, anyone? To say nothing of the variety of Experimentals coming in.

Computer numerical analysis first, then models are made and wind tunnel tested. Designs are tweaked in the computer, and retested until achieving satisfactory results. Then full scale testing is done, with hopeful minimal tweaking required. Then you have the final design. This last step happens (for our planes) during the FAA required certification flight tests. Read up in the Honda Jet to get a feel for how this works.

I would do glass first. Won't mess up the paint (if it does, it will get redone anyway), and removing required interior panels won't mess up the new ones, either. Kind of like resealing the tanks before painting, especially if using chemical strippers since that often causes "slight" damage to the paint in the bottom of the wings. Not planning to repaint anytime soon, this is why I had my tanks done at Wet Wingologists in 2010.

Jose, you can pick up a C414 or 421 really cheap, use the extra 500-600K for fuel and the second engine overhaul. They are available with a toilet in the back.

It's definitely and applies-to-oranges comparison, but I have a Hartzell 3-blade on my C. Blade length is the same as the 2-blade models, so there will be no noise reduction as tip speed will be the same. So with the draggy third blade, right now I cruise at 8-10K around 170-172 mph true; book speed is between 160-164 mph at my typical weight. So much for slowing down . . . My only speed mod is the 201-windshield. Get what you like best. Run the numbers from the vendors, include price and real-world results from others. Ignore Old Wives' Tales and other internet hysteria. The 4-blade on Erik's Rocket really looks good!

I just used my local credit union. The plane was worth more than I was borrowing. Never asked about logs or nothin'
-
I'll sell my magical C with the unique gear switch protector for a third of that! An yes, it has detents, too.
-
It's right where mine was installed in 1970, except the panel is taller so the switch is a little higher. Where was yours (mis)placed???

Aviation Consumer and stone-age digital commerce

Mine was last done by Signature near Cinci, not too far from Indy, either. But closer to where I used to live . . . -
Here I thought that Wales and Scotland had made up with England. The Heir to the British Throne has been titled Prince of Wales as part of the final treaty for several centuries now, I thought. Whatever became of The United Kingdom? I honestly thought they were all one big happy family now. To be a separate and proudly independent country, Canada sure does seem to honor English royalty and British ways of doing things. JMHO. YMMV.

Gear extension failure / gear up landing
Hank replied to IndyTim's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Well, learn something every day. Still think you did a great job of troubleshooting in the air with your wife. The damage to the plane certainly looks minor, other than the prop and whatever in the engine. She should fly again! More importantly, so will you.
