  1. Paint?
  2. Can't see your picture . . . Mine broke three years ago, it was fixed up and welded back together. Couldn't understand why my climb rate sucked leaving NC mountains or where my cruise speed went . . . . . It just doesn't run well with carb neat fully open all the time! I'll see if I can find a picture for you.
  3. My thoughts exactly!
  4. Welcome back! Call me if you need a ride, a drink, etc.
  5. Any of these are fine with me, just don't put HAL in charge . . . .
  6. I've never had a lack of volunteers to answer that question for me . . . . Welcome to the South again!
  7. It's not nice looking inland . . . .
  8. @carusoam, are you coming down this year?
  9. I agree! My tail gets sore in four hours!
  10. There are three issues with electric planes: Battery capacity, size and weight. Slowly improving thanks to hybrid cars; electric cars are still non-viable toys. Recharging time. A car that won't go >400 miles without a multi-hour charge is half useless. Ditto for a plane; I made 5 legs last Thursday totaling >1100 nm. Can't (won't!!) wait hours to recharge. Install STC. This will probably eliminate every plane from consideration that isn't built with the motor . . . . Other than that . . . .
  11. Maybe they are repairing the OOS Approach lights on 16? See preceding NOTAM. See you tomorrow. We came down today, have beer on ice.
  12. You have baffles, not a doghouse.
  13. Isn't 9KY9 the private paved strip over on US 23? Didn't think it was open to the public. Besides, Big Sandy has a restaurant and occasionally interesting traffic, just don't orbit the jail to the NW. And watch the turkey and elk if you taxi uphill for a down-slope departure! Big Sandy changed IDs not long before we moved to Alabama, it's now KSJS. My first landing there was fun, downhill on the ski jump. Must have finally touched down around midfield. (I think the slope is about 3° downhill to the south.) The restaurant is pretty good, just don't go there for Saturday supper on prom night, the line is out the door. Landing uphill is unusual, too, with the ~500' flat then going uphill at the same 3°---better touch down on the flat and be ready! Did I mention that the food is good?
  14. The spark plug probe reads higher because it is in a different location than the other probes, NOT because it reads wrong. Put spark plug probes in the other three cylinders and they would read fairly close to each other, but their readings would then not match the numbers in your Owners Manual, which was developed based on the other location. Drop the spark plug TC into frezing and boiling water, it will read correctly . . . . Your other option is to spend the $$$ to upgrade your JPI to one that is certified to replace your factory gages, then you can use the factory location for all cylinders. Be sitting down when you get the installation quote, and tell them the model and probes, etc., that you want to trade in. Good luck!
  15. No good photo, but my 1970 C with 201 windshield has a 2-piece glareshield, what looks like the original one that screws on top of an extension going forward to the windshield.
  16. You'll get good use from a C. We love ours! Going into the 11th great year.
  17. When in Texas . . . . Drink sideways beer! . Especially when your Mooney is in Alabama.
  18. Mark with a Sharpie, then use a Dremel engraver. The same one you clean your plugs with, but with a smaller tip. Once it's in the plastic, it will never come off . . . . . even if you want it to . . . . Disclosure: the dipstick came with the plane, which I bought in 2007. Never done anything to the stick except use it and put it back on the hatrack. Is that long-lasting enough?
  19. I pee inside before my flight, and often afterwards. 3-4 hours isn't a problem unless I drink too much coffee first.
  20. It's been a while since I was last at Pike County, but it also has a drop off like that at one end, doesn't it? Though it's plenty long.
  21. Found pictures of mine Works great.
  22. My dip tube last week read 16 gal. Filled that tank up with 10 gal, to rated 26 gal capacity. At reseal, it took 52.3 to fill both from empty. I dip approximately in the center of the cap opening.
  23. It has to do with surface tension. Gravity pulls the fuel inside the tube down, resisted by the surface tension at the bottom combined with the vacuum formed at the top where your thumb seals it. If the column of liquid is too large, surface tension at the bottom can't hold, the surface breaks and it all comes down rapidly. P.S.-- my dip tube is about 1/8" ID, with about thecsame wall thickness. Surface tension is a pretty weak force.
  24. Wow! Congratulations! It's a wonderful plane. I'm jealous . . . .
  25. We'll be waiting! Find out this weekend, we will all be watching!
