Hello there I was asked by Forbes to contribute to the aviation blog "Wheels Up". This is a wonderful opportunity to keep Mooney in the forefront, and to help promote general aviation. Here is my first installment: http://blogs.forbes.com/wheelsup/2010/07/07/a-mooney-girl-is-born/ I hope you enjoy it..More to come

This is fun information I received: In addition to all of the other stuff you mentioned, there's an unofficial Nut Tree Airport Museum run by a fellow named Duncan Miller out of his five hangars. There's a number of warbirds, a couple of larger airplanes outside, and a huge amount of memorabilia. No admission, not even to cover the soda and donuts he offers. "Open" Sundays 12:30pm-late afternoon, call (707) 446-1824 to make sure he's around.

Hey Russ I am glad that you had the chance to do the "Ambassador thing" at local airports. I was doing it today at the Oral Surgeon's office. He has always wanted to fly, so I started talking up flying lessons and Mooney Airplane Company. Heck with what I spent on my implants, he should be able to afford the Acclaim. [HA] We always do have an opportunity to make a good impression for General Aviation and for Mooney. I am glad you did it. Thanks for taking us along on your trip though the MS board. Safe skies

Dave I can just tell you are beaming from ear to ear! Have a wonderful time getting to know [and love] your new Mooney. Mitch was right...need to fly that beauty to one of our great Mooney gatherings so we can all meet her or him? Got a name yet??? -
I am very excited about OshKosh. It really is Disneyland for pilots and airplane lovers. Although we are flying commercially this year, we will be sure to head out to the Mooney Caravan area to meet all the Mooniacs there. In 2008 I had the pleasure of shooting the arrivals of the Mooney Caravan. 48 Mooneys...I was allowed right on the taxiway next to the EAA Chief Photographer Jim Koepnick. Quite a memory. I hope to meet all of you! If you are there on the 30th...come by the GAMA II Pavilion at 2:30 and learn how to "Share the Passion!" with the Ambassadors. Can't wait~!!!

The best thing to do for the seminars is to call MAPA and register, or go online: http://mooneypilots.com/ Another great reason to become a MAPA member.

When I was compiling one for the E, I did a google search and then combined printed and laminated. Here is a search for an F model: Hope this helps. http://www.google.com/search?q=Mooney+M20F+checklist&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

We have used the auto-shop method too, twice. Once with leather and once with my cloth seats. I was able to get memory foam and beef up my seat and lumbar area. Saved a bundle. We used a good auto shop in Santa Maria, CA.

Welcome to the Mooney Family Abe! You will find lots of support, encouragement and advice here on Mooney Space. You might also consider a membership in the Mooney owners organization MAPA http://www.mooneypilots.com They have a very nice magazine, with a free classified ad for members, an email forum [i set mine to digest into five or ten postings] safety seminars, and technical workshops. Once you are done with your training, you might want to look at the service group that my husband and I formed a little less than a year ago. The Mooney Ambassadors have a three part mission: Support Mooney Airplane Company, Promote General Aviation, and Have Someplace Wonderful to fly. We have Ambassadors all over the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Austrailia and Turkey. More at: http://www.MooneyAmbassadors.com With my E model, I had to learn about speed control. I was used to flying a Warrior. Your bird will be your best friend if you fly her/him by the numbers. This means preparing for and starting VFR descents earlier, and making sure in the pattern you are flying the correct speeds with the correct descent rate. Of course, there are always small variations dependent on conditions. And again, welcome! All questions and photos are welcome. All the best!

I am paying in the $1200 range per year from AOPIA on my 1965E. I did insure it for more a few years back when the new glass, interior and panel were installed. I have found the companies will compete for your business.

Here is the update on the world record attempt: Mooney Ambassador Gilles Khaiat seeks world record! June 12, 2010 The flight will be an attempt for a FAI word record non stop and no refueling on the distance CANNES (LFMD) France to TEL-AVIV (LLBG) Israël, with a Mooney M20 J, standard configuration, with Monroy tanks, 98 USG total fuel on board. The IFR route is 1510 Nm and the theoretical range of the aircraft if 1650 Nm, so not much than we need, no consideration of the wind, rerouting, etc.The departure will be from CANNES, during EURAVIA Airshow and French AOPA Assembly and the arrival be during the opening of the World IAOPA Assembly held at Tel-Aviv.The flight will be managed with Jacques CAILLIES who is the Publisher of the French magazine AVIATION & PILOTE, and also a Mooniac and the owner of a Mooney OVATION 2 G1000. Here is the update from Gilles: Wonderful flight of 9 h 58, average speed of 153 kt, distance of 1530 Nm from LFMD to LLSD, and only 85 USG used. Pictures to follow. Way to go! -
Congratulations on the delivery of your new Mooney. I think you will have a fun time getting to know your new airplane and building hours and experience. I had to learn to slow down and fly the "numbers". Please post some photos and make sure to use this forum as a way to get questions answered in a safe place. What area of the country do you live in? If you aren't a MAPA member, you should be! They are our Mooney Association and have a good magazine, training opportunities and chat board http://mooneypilots.com/forms/members/form_choice.html
