  5. Here is a summary of the event: Oceano Airport Celebration Day was held Saturday May 8th, 2010 This home-town fly-in was sponsored by the Santa Maria Valley 99s. We had approximately 120 aircraft join us and 450 people. Our common goal was to relay to the community the value of General Aviation and GA airports. On the terminal end of the field we were joined by the Sheriff's Aero Squadron, the California Highway Patrol, Oceano Fire, Vandenberg Fire and Empirical Systems Aerospace. At 11:00 those in the area were treated to slices of cake provided by Empirical Systems Aerospace. In the campground activities for the children were provided by the YMCA, Cerro Alto 4-H, the American Red Cross, Rabobank, Arroyo Grande Hospital and The Exploration Station. Stearman Square was host to Volunteer Corner, the 99s Candy booth, Pilot Registration, EAA #499, The Popcorn Brigade, EAA #170 Weanie Wagon, Banner Airways, Angel Flight West, Pacific Aerocademy and ArtCraft Paint. The flight line was anchored by the Mooney Ambassadors with ten Mooney aircraft. PCF Flight School, the Civil Air Patrol, and over a hundred airplanes stretched down the ramp. The day began with some 300 people enjoying the Pismo-5 Cities Lion's Club breakfast complete with eggs, sausage, pancakes, coffee and juice. The EAA Weanie wagon served hot dogs and chili dogs for lunch. The Oceano Elk's sold tri-tip sandwiches. At noon Supervisor Aschadjian proclaimed Oceano Airport Celebration Day as the second Saturday in May from now on! He presented Mitch Latting and Jolie Lucas with the proclamation which will be framed and placed in the pilot's lounge. Central City Swing Band performed from 12:30 to 2:30, and we even had some dancers. The raffle was held at 2:00 and lots of lucky participants won wonderful prizes. Our volunteers sold buttons and raffle tickets by the hundreds. JR Smith's Banner Airways provided a fun wing-walking demonstration themed "Rosie the Riveter." The Popcorn Brigade served complimentary popcorn to the kids courtesy of The Great American Melodrama. Face painting courtesy of ArtCraft Paint.

  8. You might want to check the previous thread about Mooney Madness coming up on May 22nd. ArtCraft is hosting a day of workshops, food, music, give aways and fun. I have seen their interior work and it is quite nice. But coming to see for yourself would probably be in order. 2.5 hours and you are here! I think there are a few spots left for registration. I also believe there is a fuel discount that day. KSMX=Santa Maria, CA
  9. Hi Michael, the event at Marin was cancelled by the organizers some time ago. I thought I got an email out to everyone, I am sorry if I missed you. I am not sure if it will be re-scheduled. We missed you at L52. We had 10 Mooneys and about 120+ airplanes. It still had a down-home feeling even with 350+ people. Mark you calendar for next year! Right on the schedule: Paine, WA, St Paul Alberta,Canada, then Porterville and Columbia [California].
  10. Hi Steven, Mitch and I will be there all week. We had a great time getting to know the Caravan folks a few years back. There is a "hospitality" tent and folks just having fun! There is so much to do at Airventure. Make sure to bring your Mooney shirt and/or hat. And look for the Mooney Ambassadors on the schedule. Mitch and I would love to have you in the audience, and maybe was can all have an impromptu gathering that night....
  11. We have two Mooneys on the field right now, front and center. Expect four or so more tomorrow. The Ambassadors will be full-tilt! I think we are going to have good weather! Horray! Thank you for the good wishes!
  12. Thank you very much for the compliment. It is fun to watch the cameras on OceanoAirport.com. I can see what Mitch is up to! HA. It might be fun for folks to watch tomorrow who cannot come!
  13. Hello Mooney Lovers Tomorrow is our big day... Oceano Airport Celebration Day- L52-Oceano, California. As a salute to our Veterans who fly/flew out of Oceano, we painted the curb stops in the parking lot with the types of aircraft they flew. We took a bunch of heat from the County, but what the hey... pictures are attached. With the remaining stops we put the types of aircraft the volunteers fly...so you can imagine a bunch of Mooney curb stops! Our Mooney banner is in place near the fuel stop, and the Ambassadors will be in the front row. Expecting seven or eight Ambassadors to come. Mr. Edwards the developer continues his attack on Oceano. He says Oceano is like a favorite toy that a child has forgotten and put on a shelf, and when another kid comes over and wants to play with it, the child says "no, that's my favorite". We invited him and his baby-mama to the Celebration, except he cannot bring his dog. http://www.FriendsofOceanoAirport is the website. 21. I wonder about the Artic Air, they have had a booth at Oshkosh that last few years. Looks like about the size of an ice chest.... Just some food for thought, or I guess ice-cubes for thought is a better metaphor.
  22. Thank you very much for posting. We are doing our best to have a great event that highlights GA and GA airports.
