  1. Welcome to the world of Mooney Airplanes! We are a small, but close-knit family. A year ago, we purchased a 1994 Ovation, after having an F for many many years, and we still have my E model. I think that you will be very happy with the instrumentation, design, safety features and Mooney SPEED. Don Kaye is an excellent choice for instruction and is in your "neck of the woods." Please feel free to ask questions on this board, post photos, be involved. We are very friendly and eager to tell you everything we know about our wonderful airplanes. IF you ever want a tour in Kerrville, let me know, or go to the Mooney Ambassador site. We have an invitation for a personal tour. http://www.MooneyAmbassadors.com Again, welcome!
  2. Welcome to the family Jason!
  3. I just wanted to bump this message. This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the pioneers with Mooney Airplanes. If you are considering the purchase of a Mooney, or looking at a pre-buy...why not go, get the great manual, and experience the seminar. Just my two cents....
  4. Bob, one final thought, something my Dad said to me a few hours after the crash. "It was a piece of metal. Metal can be replaced. There are no funerals being planned today." It helped me.
  5. Bob, I can relate to your experience, the difference being with me, the loss was as the result of an "off airport" landing. I did immediately start looking for a replacement for Maggie I. It was healing for me to look, shop and eventually purchase Maggie II. Probably unlike your aircraft, we were able to salvage instruments from Maggie I, and as well, have her N number transferred to my airplane. I feel for you and your family. It is very traumatic. All the best Jolie
  6. I had six hours in a Mooney when I purchased my E model, and perhaps 150 total time. My insurance has been between $1200-1400 with great coverage and a $100 deductible. Become a member of MAPA and AOPA, then get a good deal. I transitioned from a Warrior to the Mooney with no problems. Good luck and keep us posted.
  7. I pulled this information off the Mooney Ambassador schedule regarding Sun and Fun Mooney Airplane Company will have a full complement of our sales team along with 2 Acclaims and an Ovation 3 Event location: Lakeland Linder Regional Airport Start your aviation year at Sun 'n Fun, one of the world's premier events for recreational aviation enthusiasts. Mooney Aircraft Company will be on display. Please stop by the Mooney Display to say hello! http://www.mooney.com The decision about whether Mooney Airplane Company will be at AirVenture [Oshkosh] will be made in late April.
  8. Hi Jason Welcome to the Mooney Family. There is a great myth that the Mooney is a difficult plane to fly. I think that is really just a myth. Just as you do with any aircraft, you need to have solid training and no illusions about your skills. Most times I think the times that Mooney pilots get into trouble is when they think they can "get away with something." For example, too much speed on final or in the flare. My 65 E model is the best. She is very predictable and when I fly her by the numbers I can be seen doing the "Happy Mooney Dance" after a great landing. Again welcome! MooneySpace is awesome. And so you know, the Mooney Ambassadors is a group we founded to support the Mooney Airplane Company, and promote General Aviation. http://www.MooneyAmbassadors.com All the best!
  9. I think it looks wonderful Brian. Congrats on the cool paint job. I have to get my fuel leak before ArtCraft takes a whack at my Maggie II. All the best
  10. Here is the link from AOPA, interesting reading. http://www.digitalburg.com/artman2/publish/WAFB_News_57/A-10_pilot_guides_civilian_pilot_to_safe_landing.shtml
  11. Mooney Madness registration is up and running again!
  12. There are always exceptions to everything but, normally I lower to 20" MP, lower to 2000 RPM and the nose drops to achieve approx. 400-500 FPM.
  13. Eric, thank you for letting me know. We are working with ArtCraft on the problem. Right now we are in Las Vegas with ArtCraft at an airshow. Esmerlda, from ArtCraft is on her way to the office to open up more spaces for registration. Sorry for the inconvenience. Should be good to go in an hour.
  14. We are told that sixteen have registered for the event since yesterday. So if you would like to come, get registered. There are so many fun surprises they have in store for us Mooney Lovers! http://www.artcraftpaint.com/events Information on Santa Maria, CA SMX: http://www.santamariaairport.com/pilot-information.php

  16. What a happy happy time Alan. I remember the dual I received when I got my E model. It does feel like you are a student again, because we are! Our airplanes do best when we fly them by the numbers. I also remember how hard it was to get slowed down! Speed speed speed! Have a wonderful time.
  17. Registration is open! Come one and all. What a fun day for Mooney Owners, and if paint or interior are in your five-year plan you should be there! http://www.artcraftpaint.com/events
  18. Thanks Craig! I really appreciate this forum and our Mooney family!
  19. That's a good story and a good looking airplane Ned. Thanks for sharing.
  20. We just had movie night at our Santa Maria EAA Chapter, and watched 16R. We all brought popcorn and pizza, and had a great time. Santa Maria is where the movie the Rocketeer was filmed. So we watched in our Museum of Flight, which was a part of the set for the movie. The sets were going to be destroyed, but they donated the building to the airport, and it is now a functioning, and lovely museum.
  21. Yes, our beautiful Jennie's Facebook profile does say she is in relationship with Brian Terwilliger. They make a handsome couple!
  22. Seriously, who is the fellow that made the movie?? Inquiring minds want to know.
  23. We sent the antenna back to Garmin, and they sent us a new one. They say the cables are the weak link.
  24. What a wonderful feeling to get the plane of your dreams. I did the MOONEY Dance when I got Maggie my E model. If you are looking to show off your new bird, check out our display schedule on the Mooney Ambassadors website. We would love to have you. http://www.MooneyAmbassadors.com
  25. I landed in Petaluma this past summer. It was a challenge because of the wind and lots of traffic. I thought I was doing just great, and then on short final the wind just got squirly. I did okay, not my best landing, but I would grade it a B. I hope that the pilot is back in the saddle again soon. We are a small Mooney family. Hate to see any of us unhappy!
