  1. This is from the Lycoming Break In Service Instruction. Not sure if this is the calculation used to see if your oil use has stabilized during Break In or if it is general formula for max allowable oil consumption anytime but it is a guide I suppose to see how the engine is doing. They were a little vague in the SI on its application. NOTE The following formula is used to calculate the maximum allowable oil consumption limits for all Lycoming aircraft engines. 1. FIXED WING 0.006 x BHP x 4 ÷ 7.4 = Qt./Hr.
  2. I am not going to get an EarthX battery however, I did contact the company about their batteries being up in the engine bay and the heat that it may incur in that area. My question specifically asked "In some Mooney aircraft, the battery is located within the engine area in front of the firewall. It tends to get hot in there. Will the EarthX battery have an issue in such an environment?" This was their response for any interested: So typically no but there are specific cases where the temps exceed our batteries limitations and our fault LED will signal a 2 second on 2 second off fault which means high temperature. I suggest connecting our LED to your EFIS or our LED kit so you can monitor it. If it was to be an issue there are 2 options that you could do. You could move the battery box but that can be a lot of work which is why we make a thermal battery box you could use and or as well as heat shielding the battery yourself possibly adding a blast tube if needed. 3. That's very cool. There are so few of these left that are flying. I'm not sure if this one is. Flightaware shows its last flight in 2017 but that was in Pennsylvania. 27K is in Kentucky, right? The owner is listed from San Antonio, Texas.
  4. I would suggest you go take a look at controller.com and just see what the list prices are for K models. Quite a bit more than $150K. GMaxAmerican Aircraft could help you out. They have a few K models listed although quite bit more than $150K. Good luck with the hunt.
  5. I only need a minute or two from throttle to bottle...however, I still need 8 hours from Bottle to throttle...
  6. I'm no mechanic but if it is coming out of the exhaust then the only place that can come from is the exhaust valve, no? So you may have an issue with an exhaust valve. This just happened to me. Compression test on #1 cylinder had air coming out the exhaust. Other three cylinders were silent with no air leaks. Borescope of #1 cylinder showed a problem with the exhaust valve. Discussed lapping it in place but it failed the wobble test miserably. Cylinder was removed and sent out for work.
  7. That was very well done and very informative. Thanks for posting.
  8. I was just talking with the owner of the shop that works on my plane. They are an authorized Garmin dealer and installer and a pretty big shop. He said it is taking them anywhere from 4-6 months to get any Garmin products. So put in your order well in advance of wanting the actual product installed.
  9. I know it may not be the same but Garmin makes online trainers and Apps for some of their GPS's. There are one's for the GTN's, the GNC 355, GNC 355A, GPS 175, GNX 375. They also have an outdated but still useable trainer for the GNS 430/530. You can learn from the comfort of your home and not have to run down your airplane battery.
  10. Yes it is. It was rebuilt by Boyd Maddox in Houston. Did a really nice job.
  11. These photos are from a Mooney Mite. Kind of a work of art (no pun intended), I think....
  12. What is the weight difference between using aluminum and the factory cardboard? Negligible?
  13. This is also a webpage that can help a little with the older models. It stops at 2006 so it does not include some of the newer models. It talks about what was standard in each model Mooney as it come into the world. Of course, most have been modified, especially in the avionics department. Mooney Model Chronology (mooneyevents.com)
  14. If you go to the program mode by holding the step and LF buttons. Then click next until you get to the question Carb Y N? If you say yes the next question will say Carb = 1? You can set that between 1 and 3. 3 gives the highest dampening effect. I have mine set on 3 and it settled everything down.
  15. @lakeclarkair, If you search Century 41 autopilot on ebay.com they have some servos listed. Not sure if any of them will work for your applications since I don't have a Century Autopilot but it may be a place to start to find one. Texas Air Salvage has one as well but not sure if it would work with your application.
  16. And to think, at one time, not so long ago, a needle/ball and airspeed and a watch was all we needed to get from point A to point B.... Very nice looking panel!!!! Well done.
  17. I feel your pain and I won't complain about mine anymore.
  18. I would like my airplane back. It's been in the shop since late September.
  19. This is an excellent book that I would recommend to all pilots. I have read through it twice now and learn something new each time. Scott did a great job on this work. I would also recommend his book on the Skew T diagram. Also, quite excellent. I am not a paid spokesman. Just a very satisfied customer.
  20. If this is the case then I think the issue, as has been said many times, was not with you but with poor planning on the guys behind you. Also, if you change your mind and go back to landing faster because of worrying about the guys behind you, just remember, when it comes to replacing your tires more frequently or replacing your brakes more frequently, those guys behind you aren't going to contribute to the funds to pay for that stuff. So, save and protect your airplane and do what you feel is safe.
  21. My avionics shop had a required dealer webinar last week. Apparently, Garmin told them that the fix will be in Q1 of next year, not this year. Don't hold me to that. It is just what I heard from my A&P/IA. They also told my shop that they had to disable the trim. On the service alert it states that "Before further flight one of the following actions must be completed: Disable the GFC500 Autopilot by pulling the circuit braker and placarding it inop or contact a Garmin dealer to disable the pitch trim" My shop says they have to disable the pitch trim according to Garmin. Oh well....
  22. I take mine home in the case it came in. My Lightspeed PFX's were pretty pricey and they have lasted a long time by taking good care of them. When I first bought my airplane I had a set of Dave Clarks and upgraded to my first Lightspeed Zulu's. I used to leave them in the airplane and in a short time, in the Texas heat, even in a hangar the rubber products on the headsets went south and the battery pack became all gummy and sticky. Ever since I always take my headsets home with me.
  23. Once again... us poor little old C model owners are left out of another poll. Of course, I am just kidding....
  24. When you have to remove the 75 (yes...75) screws from the cowl of a 1963 C model....a power screwdriver comes in handy. Not a drill, a power screwdriver.
